Hi

I am trying to trace an relitive that my husband visited in Lunt, we have an painting of the cottage and from this and posting it on the 'Bootle past present and future' site we have identified it as 'Tithebarn Cottage', Lunt Lane, Lunt, Lancashire, My late mother in law used to go to stay there in the 1920s and my husband remembers visiting in the 60s, They were 'Auntie Annie and Uncle Vic, I would love to know their surname and have tried to access the census for 1901 and 1911 but as I have no surname I cannot access the census for Lunt, both A......Y and F... M. P... do not seem to have records for Lunt in Lancashire. Can anyone help please?

Thank you

Gwen :)

the census for lunt lane 1901 and 1911 can be found by just entering lunt lane in the address search box.

Hi Gwen,

Found this site about Lunt Village and the opening picture looks very much like Tithebarn Cottage.

Hi Julie

The cottage is shown in the final pages that name old houses in the area, Just need to know the name of the occupants between 1920 - 1960, it would be great if I could access the electoral role for the area, or even maybe they were there for 1911 census.

I have just had an e-mail from the vicar who has told me that she has spoken to a neighbour of the Uncle and aunt, They were Annie and Harold Victor Roberts, The neighbour even recaled my husband visiting them. They lived in the cottage until the mid 60's when the council discused demolishing all the properties along lunt lane, all the cottages were rented at that time, uncle Harold worked on the 'Roughly Farm' and they offered them a cootage around the cottage where they remained for a few years.

The neighbour thinks that aunty Annie who was in ill health may have died there, although she is not buried in St Helen's Church, Sefton.

Uncle Vic, although a keen church member did not have a official capasity there.

The marriage took place at the church Harold Roberts, Teamsman aged 24 of Houghton Cottages, Lunt (Father Alec Roberts, Farmer Married Annie Williams aged 24 of Houghton Cottages Lunt Daughter of Robert Edward Williams - Hairdresser They were married on 10th July 1926. They did not have any children.

Annie is recorded in 1911 census living at 48 Eaton Avenue, Litherland with mother Susannah and younger sister Irene.

Harold Victor Roberts is recorded living at Broughton Farm, New Broughton, Wrexham, His father Alexander Roberts was born in Gwersyllt and was a dairy farmer.

A death is recorded in 1977 in the Wrexham area for Harold Victor Roberts which ties in to the neighbours memories of Harold returning to the Wrexham area.

Thank you everyone for your kind help.

The attached photo is Tithbarn cottage today taken by akind member of the Bootle past present future forum.

Hi Gwen.....nice story.
Bootle is an interesting place...heavily bombed during WW2 it was a big dockyard and had a lot of industry...but it was also surrounded by little hamlets and farmhouses...little lanes and small communities surrounding Bootle itself.
Helen Forrester wrote a lot about Bootle and Liverpool and she gives a lot of insight into Bootle................your story takes me back to those times.

Regards...Lee.
