That's an error - Beatrice is a THORBURN and unmarried so not a LYON.

Is John Lamb b. 1836 = John Lyon? or is Lam a middle name?

Yes, but I don't think we've yet had 4 goes at any. :biggrin:

Lamb is a middle name and no idea where that came from. I've not found the '1835' marriage yet - that was an old submitted IGI entry.

I try to always put the surnames in upper case.

I also don't know if it is THORBURN or THORNBURN.

Probably the former and James married Elizabeth WOTHERSPOON.

I can't see a baptism on FS for James aged 15 in that 1841 census so don't know if he is a brother of Beatrice and Janet or not.

John Lamb LYON married Elizabeth Gillespie PEARSON in Glasgow on 3 December 1860 before sailing for Melbourne; they arrived on 20 March 1861. His father, a storekeeper at Maldon, had migrated some years earlier.

This is James' death, his mother was Margaret LAMB. Janet d. 1895, their deaths are recorded on the church stained glass window...

But about 17 years late.

There are others. Looks like 4 sons and 3 daughters born to 1854 in Lanark. Seems James was the only one born in Renfrew.

It seems as though all children born in Lanark were after that 17 Aug 1828 marriage with only James born before that date and in Renfrew. But his reg is LYON with father = John not LAMB with just mother = Margaret.

I can see no other reg for children born in Scotland to John & Margaret between 1811 and 1829.
