Hello, I am looking to confirm the identity of a Mabel Burns (nee Gee) who immigrated to Canada around 1913. My conflict is that I had a Mabel Gee listed for my research but now I have a new Mabel Beatrice Gee on the scene with similar details and I need to clarify things.

The details that I have at this time on Mabel are:
- Born Mabel Gee 10Apr1889 in Liverpool, England.
- Baptised 22May1889 at St Johns The Baptist, Toxteth.
- Father was Benjamin Gee born circa 1863.
- Mother was Annie Gee (nee Tickle).

- Married Tom Tiffin Burns; date and location unknown.
- Arrived Alberta Canada 1913 according to 1921 Canadian Census.
- Had two children as at 1921 Canadian Census; Olive Burns age 5 and Gladys Burns age 2 born Alberta.
- Tom born 1892 in Crosby Cumberland, went to Canada in 1901 as a miner and worked 6 yrs. Came back home in UK on 1911 and then bounced back to Canada same year?
- Tom dies age 91 on 26 May 1983 Burnaby Canada.
- Mabel died 1992 in Vancouver age 103.

I would like to identify if this Mabel Beatrice who married Tom is the same as my Mabel by confirming her birthdate/place/parents if possible.
If this proves good, would like to know as much as possible about what they did over there and of course down the line to their children Olive and Gladys.

Appreciated, Pete

Agree yes Mabel Beatrice is no longer our girl; especially noting her fathers name being William.
So now I need to concentrate on the original Mabel; will it be easier for me to gather my info as it stands right now and open up a new thread in the Canadian Forum?
Opps .... just realised that is where I am

Yeah, so it is more likely that the arrival in post #11 is correct
A closer look at the image [poor] reveals she is travelling a 'Penn' family, she was working for them in 1911 [post #3, domestic], so the 1913 arrival is the one..

Sorry, Pete... No new addition to the family :(

Ok thanks to the fine outstanding members I now have the following information on my Great Aunt Mabel:

- Born 10Apr1889 @ 136 Admiral Street, Toxteth, Liverpool (Jun Qtr 1889)
- Baptised 22May1889 @ St Johns the Baptist
- Siblings were May, Ethel, Albert and Benjamin (and maybe a Charles William but that is pending)
- Father and mother Benjamin Gee and Annie Eliza Tickle
- Immigrated to Canada 1913, arriving in Quebec onboard the vessel “Canada” 14 May 1913
- 1916 Canada Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta shows her as being married now to a Tom S Burns with a daughter Olive May Burns (age 0) and living in Macleod, Alberta.
- 1921 Census shows 2 daughters Olive May Burns (age 5) and and Gladys Burns (age 2)
- Tom died 26 May 1983 (age 91) Burnaby, Canada
- Mabel lived until the grand age of 103 and died in 1992 Vancouver.

Can anyone shed any light on what happened to Olive and Glady ??
Did they get married?
Did they have children?
Where?

Appreciated, Pete

Hi Pete,
Olive Burns takes a trip over to USA 24 Aug 1933 to Eastport Idaho with Dad Thomas T Burns, Grandmother Mary Burns and Friends John & George Rushton, her Mother Mabel Burns residential address shows as 555 W. 20th Ave Vancouver BC Canada.
She was 17, no occupation, going for 2 days - height 5ft 7in, fair completion and blonde hair blue eyes.

Not sure if it's Olive but in 11/12 April 1943 Trans-Canada Airlines from Toronto to La Guardia NY has a Harry Brent married, a Musical Arranger with a Olive Burns age 27 Canadian along with few other people. (musical troop)

Looks like Mabel along with daughters Olive & Gladys popped back to UK in 19 May 1920 on ship "Victorian" to looks like Sheil St Liverpool.

Hi Pete,
A little bit more for your records.

1935 ER for Vancouver Canada
Tom Tiffin Burns a civil servant with wife and mother Mrs Joseph Burns (a widow) at 555/ 20th Avenue W .

1940 Tom is classed as labourer, still at same address with Mabel & Mother.

1949 they have moved to Apart 5, Cambie St, Vancouver-Quadra – Tom’s now a janitor.

Tom’s Mother Mary Ann Burns nee Tiffin dies 22 March 1952 Vancouver aged 81, she (Mum) and Tom’s Dad Joseph aged 53, Mum aged 57 show on 1921 Census for Coleman Town Albert with Tom’s brother John age 20 – they show as arriving in 1910.

Tom’s Dad Joseph died 21 Dec 1925 Coleman Alberta.

They all must have gone back to UK to pack up as they are all on 1911 Uk census. Crosby Maryport, Cumberland.. Tom Tiffin son is 19 and showing as single, so his marriage must be in Canada.
regards
Val
