Hello,

One of several trees - HERE

I can't find a baptism for Neil McKELLAR/MACKELLER abt 1832. I also can't find when Neil and the others arrived.

The author of the tree says Donald the eldest son was the first to arrive:

MCKELLAR Donald arrived in SA 1838-11-16 aboard Rajasthan from London 07-26 [Source:2]

Neil senior died 1862 in Vic. and Neil junior in 1892 in Summer Hill, NSW.

Most of the family lived and died in Victoria. Marriages 1850 & 1851 so they arrived before 1851 census.

I don't know how much I can trust the tree when Dugald is born 1835 and his mother Ann died in 1833. I can't find a baptism for Dugald 1833-1836.

I also doubt very much Neil was in Canada in 1861 and back in Scotland in 1871 and 1881.

I can't find them in 1841 but that does not mean they arrived before 1841. All I can say is 1833-1850. ??? I don't know if we can prove it's the right Donald in 1838.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

There is a similar tree on Anc. with those stat's (can be validated) for Neil Jr. and appear to refer to a Neil b. Paisley, Renfrewshire.

I almost gave up on this one then I came across this, though not too hopeful (no Margaret or Catherine seen on any tree):
1851 United Kingdom Census Sample:
Name: Neil McKellar
Address: Argyll Street
Enumeration District: Lochgilphead
County: Argyll
Birth Place: Argyllshire, Scotland, Palishay?
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Relationship: Head
Marriage Status: Unmarried
Occupation: Wine & Spirit Mercha
Household: View other family members:
Margt McKellar, sis, unm, 37, b. Argyllshire, Scotland, Palishay?, visitor.
Catherne McKellar, sis, unm, 25, b. Argyllshire, Scotland, Palishay?, occ: housemaid.
Mary McKellar, neice, 8, b. Argyllshire, Scotland, Lochgilphead, scholar.

Hello Geoff,

Thanks for looking.

I can't see how that family you found in the census fits with the others although Lochgilphead is given in several trees as pob for Neil junior.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks gibbo. :)

It does seem they arrived before 1851 census.

Hard to know what to believe with the trees. Checking parts of that tree I notice some errors:

MacKELLAR George Sinclair Death notice 14OCT1951 Death late of Chatswood SMH 15OCT1951

Several newspaper articles and notices have date as 14th not 12th.

Lochgoilhead instead of lochgilphead.

Ardrachy instead of Ardachy.

Ardrachy Station in Victoria. A descendant named his residence in Artarmon, NSW 'Ardachy' and it's in army service record and E/R:

1930 & 1939 NSW Electoral Roll - North Sydney - Artarmon
McKELLAR George Colin, Ardachy, Mowbray road, independent means
McKELLAR Dorothy Jean, Ardachy, Mowbray road, Chatswood, home dut.

I just realised post #2 does not make sense. I was searching for an Elizabeth born 1840 Angus.

If father is James then census has William.

A tree has this for Elizabeth:

1861 Methlick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
Married in 1863 in Victoria. Possible but I doubt they were still in Scotland in 1861.

I can't find an Elizabeth DAVIDSON born 1840 +/- 2 Angus in Scotland in 1841 or 1851.

Hi Guys

haha @ gibbo... yeah, Dave's branches are always a challenge, I'm reserving judgement on his trees :2fun:

Yeah, it was the place name and Neil/age that drew me to it, I suspect it is no worse than being in Canada

Born 1814 and landed in Adelaide in 1837. Well according to the article he did  Might help confirm the arrival date for him.

Ah. Well, we missed out I think.

I just followed Ryerson and got the two notices. Don't actually know if there is an obit.

I've just checked 6th, 7th and 8th and no obit.

So it appears that Ann died before the family come over here
Wonder where they got the " BEF 1849" from  Why 1849, maybe that is when the family arrived and Ann wasnt with them

Name: Ann SINCLAIR
Given Name: Ann
Surname: SINCLAIR
***: F
Birth: BEF 20 MAY 1794 in Kilchrenan, Argyll, Scotland
Death: BEF 1849 in Scotland

Dunno.

The other tree has her death in 1833 and a copy of her marriage but not a copy of her death certificate.

I'll see if I can find that death. No sign of a death.

Using 15 Dec 1832 birth/baptism for Neil I can't find a record for a Neil/Niel in Scotland in 1832.

#5 post on here. Neil arrived around 1849.
And the tree has that Ann died before 1849 therefore im assuming she didnt come out here with them hence the tree owner obviously thinks Ann died before the family come here.

PS The pot plant stands turned out good
