Major Bernard C Debenham ( Born Cousins ) was adopted by mr debenham but kept mother name as middle name, if that makes sense

Served in the world war 1 in Belgium I believe

Dies 1984

Bernard C Debenham enlisted RAMC February 1920. Served as Private at Netley Hospital - later served Maidstone, Egypt, Crookham, North Africa and Singapore. Married Ethel in 1924. Father, Henry Edward Debenham, killed 29th October 1918 at Dombrie, Nr Lecelles, France - initially buried at Rogny but reinterred in War Grave Commission Cemetery, Tournai, Belgium.

Major Bernard Debenham was my grandfather. He was a Major (acting) in WW2 and received the MBE in 1946. He was not adopted. His father was Henry Edward Debenham but when Bernard was born his parents were unmarried and therefore his birth certificate recorded his mother's surname of Cousins. His parents married shortly after his birth and Cousins became a 'family' name for his and Ethel's three daughters.
