I am trying to find out about a man called Major White. Major is his Christian name not a rank. He was born around 1920 and I think that he may have lived around the Oldham area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Major White died in 1991 district Oldham.

Date of Birth 16 Sep 1912.

There isnt a marriage in that area but there are some outside the area, whether any of these are him,? I would purchase the death certficate as the informant may be a relative. If he did marry and his marriage isnt on the GRO index, you could have a look at the overseas marriages, as Major may have been in WW2. Hope this is of help.

Hi just sticking with your Thomas Lincoln White & family in Oldham.
I have searched both Oldham and Manchester council run cemeteries for any burials of either Thomas Lincoln White or his wife Annie but they don't seem to be in any, which would suggest they could well be buried in a private church yard?

1881 census at 9 Bread street, above town Oldham
Edward Champion 44 Head
Ellen White 46 Lodger/boarder/ Widow
Elizabeth E. White 9 daughter
Thomas Lincoln White 6 son

1891 census at 26 Higginshaw road, above town, Oldham.
Ellen White 49 Head/widow
Thomas White 16 Son
Hamlet Marland 24 Son-in-law
E Ellen Marland 19 Daughter.

Hamlet Marland Married Elizabeth Ellen White at ST. Mark, Heyside. Oldham 1889.

1901 census at 37 Derker street, Oldham.
Thomas L White 26 Head
Alice White 23 Wife
Mary Alice White 2 Daughter
Lily White 1 Daughter
Sarah A Radford 18 Boarder.

The wedding details you have already been given for Thomas & Alice but with the exception of the church. This was the same church as his sister Elizabeth married Hamlet, ST. Mark, Heyside, Oldham.

Now the address for the 1911 census would be the same as the 1901 as i found a Thomas White on the 1918 Absent voters list at the 37 Derker street Oldham. I also found three more children's births with the surname White and a mothers maiden name of Wilde:
Ivy White 1903
Jenny White 1905
Thomas Lincoln White 1908..

Now Thomas Lincoln White Sr, seems a little old to have served WW1 ( would be 43 in 1918 ) but like i said i found him on the 1918 Oldham absent voters list. so this could well possibly be hims?

Click here for T L WHITE medal card Cost £2 if you don't have subs to Ancestry. It shows he must have enlisted 1915 as he was awarded the 1915 star plus British and victory medals. It also shows he was a P.O.W. in Germany 27th May 1918.

Now can't prove these are Thomas & Alice White daughters marriages, but my best shot at them?
Lilly White married Walter Carter 1922 ST john the evangelist, Failsworth, Oldham. Then later went on to marry Harry Wright 1953 at Oldham registry office.
Ivy White married a Thomas Butterworth 1923 at ST. Mark, Heyside, Oldham
Jenny married a William Fletcher 1925 at ST. James, Oldham and then remarried Edward J B Gilroy 1938 at Christ church, Chadderton, Oldham.

They married 8th Dec 1889.

There are service records for Hamlet Marland WW1.

On every thing i check, Elizabeth Ellen Marland nee White comes up born America? Can this be right?
