There's a couple of trees with; d. Midlothian 1861, not validated. Just trying to confirm it.

Geoff
One of the trees has this...

"1861
3 Sep
Age: 81
Whitefaugh, Carrington, Midlothian, Scotland
No medical attendent, death certificate, Register House, Edinburgh"

Don't know if you are still interested in this lady, Dave as a few years ago but i have her death in 1861. Parents are Robert Walkingshaw and Margaret Jackson and she was the widow of David Cairns, ploughman.

She died at Carrington September 3rd 1861

One of our members of Borders FHS has asked me to try and find David's parentage and one of my google searches brought up our forum. I haven't gone further but think he is descended from John the first child of David and Mgt (Walkingshaw).

In the first message on this thread you have James as son to Alexander but FMP has him as a visitor and possibly the same James is with Mgt Cairns in 1841 aged 2 when she is living with her daughter Mary Pagan and husband.

Sorry to stir up the dust again!

Thanks Barbara.

It's a branch of my tree that has not been pruned off in the meantime. :)

Add to my tree, or fix an error or whatever is fine.

Janet was the one who married Thomas? And her mother was a Cairns too? Might help me with going back with David then if we can find anything about Mary Cairns. She didn't go out to Australia too?

Note that Margaret and David not using naming patterns as far as her parents as Robert was quite far down the list of boys and there isn't room for a dead one:2fun:

Interesting how Thomas ended up in Stirling from Peebles. Lanarkshire, Glasgow or Edinburgh was a more likely travel for work back then. Going to relatives more likely?

Have to go, be back later.

It was some time ago but when I looked I could not find John or Mary Draper in 1841.

Both dead by Jan 1852.

Shipping record has Margaret living at Noblehouse as of Jan 1852.

??
1851
Civil Parish: Dolphinton
County: Lanarkshire
Address: Newmill
Alexander Cairns Head 20 Farm Lab Newlands Peebles
Margaret Wife 25 Liberton Lanark
James Cairns son 11 Carnwath Lanark
Not named 4 days
Margaret Cairns visitor 70 Linton Peebles

Pob and age fit for Margaret in 1841 and 1861 so that is probably youngest son Alexander with his age a bit out.

Wonder why this tree is showing some as 'half'

Janet Cairns
Born 26 Sep 1806 in Stobo, Peebleshire * actually baptism date
Daughter of David Cairns and [mother unknown]

Sister of John Cairns, John Cairns [half], William Cairns [half], David Cairns, Margaret Cairns [half], Thomas David Cairns [half], Adam Cairns [half], Mary Cairns and Robert Cairns

If David married twice then those with 'half' attached would be in one batch together ??

Can this be confirmed?

David CAIRNS & Margaret WALKINGSHAW
10 Jun 1798 Eddlestone, Peebles

CAIRNS
DAVID
MARGARET WALKINGSHAW/FR355 (FR355)
10/06/1798
