Just found this.

Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser (Qld. : 1860 - 1947) -Tuesday 9 July 1878 p.2
Inquiry before the Immigration Board.
n Inquiry into the charge preferred by the Matron against the Surgeon-Superintendent of the 'Glamis' immigration ship, which recently arrived at this port, was commenced yesterday morning, by the Immigration Board. ...
...
Maria Johns was a single girl, and an immigrant by the 'Glamis' - saw the doctor every day during the voyage out ; never saw him drunk or unfit or incapable of doing his duty ; remember the matron sending for the doctor to see me ; he was not drunk on that occasion.

JOHN Maria 17 'Glamis' 30 May 1878 1525 18477 Z1959 M1698

The .pdf file loads but is blank. Wonder if that is related to the other problem and it's a library .dll file on my hard disk that is corrupt. ???

Thanks Geoff.

Ruled one death out but can't find a remarriage or a death for Maria.

JOHN or JOHNS and Wales or Cornwall. ?? I have an Elizabeth JOHN in early 1700s in Cornwall.

1922 death is ruled out.

William is in the Cairns Pioneer Cemetery.

No Maria in that cemetery.

Will you be able to get anything from the library on this? It does look to be the only real lead at present.

Not a thing from the library.

Even if the image loaded it would only list what sort of immigrant and port. Queensland images have no info re origin or trade or parents.

Interesting how Wiliam's daughters/husbands and even the Newells can be seen in the occasional E/R, but not William or Maria. In fact, out of the 3 or 4 trees none give their marriage a mention.

Hi Dave,
have you seen this?
http://mbahistsoc.org.au/Jack-&-Newell/Jack-&-Newell/jack-&-newell.htm

http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/newell-john-4293
Obit on John Newell in Townsville Bulletin Tues 9 Aug 1932

Departing Mr & Mrs Jack in Morning Post Tuesday 6 May 1902

info on his daughter Janet Newell - Cairns Post Thursday 1 Jan 1948

The only ER I can see for Maria Jack is on her own at Childers and found a death for a Maria Jack buried at Apple tree Creek Cemetery Qld. 1922 which is situated 6 km north of Childers.

regards
Val

Hi Dave,
that Maria Jack in Childers isn't the one, her parents are different.

In The Brisbane Courier Mon 21 Aug 1911 re For the Estate of the Late Mr William Jack, probate was granted to John Newell and John Moffat - no mention of wife.

Seems strange as all the articles written on "Willie" Jack just makes reference as if oh by the way here's Mrs Jack his 2nd wife full stop but in his departing article for going around the world trip just seems to make reference "he will be going here and there" not as they as in couple.. maybe this Maria was not warmly welcomed by the family...

I did see a UK incoming for a Mrs Jack departing Brisbane for London late 1910 - could she have returned to UK after William's death..

Willie Jack's other daughter - Isabella Jack married Anthony Theodore Linedale in Qld in 1892 (his Orbit in T'ville Bulletin Tues 23 March 1943) and she died 1920 (parents William Jack & Sarah Blackley)
regards
Val

Thanks Val.

Yes, lots of mentions of the Newells. You might be right re Maria.
