Hello,

Deaths Mar 1912
Davis Maria K 86 Portsmouth 2b 738

Maria was born in 1825 at Portsea, Hampshire and married a George Davis in 1843.

Marriages Sep 1843
CARTER Maria Portsea Isld 7 191
DAVIS George Portsea Isle 7 191

I can't see them together in 1881. A possible: Maria DAVIES, a widow and greengrocer.

I'd like a look up for Maria in 1901 please.

Regards,

Dave

Hello cp,

I'll have to try and prove this is not the right one:

1881
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability
Maria DAVIES Head W Female 58 Portsmouth, Hampshire, England Greengrocer (Etc)

Source Information:
Dwelling 110 Fratton St
Census Place Portsea, Hampshire, England
Public Records Office Reference RG11
Piece / Folio 1154 / 59
Page Number 6

Always the possibility it's DAVIES and not George DAVIS.

Regards,

Dave

Hello cp,

About 1 second before you did. :2fun:

That's the right one. ;)

Deaths Sep 1902
Carter George Henry 82 Portsmouth 2b 281

Please also see if you can find George in 1901. Thanks.

I have George in all the earlier census.

I don't yet know which of Maria's sisters married a BRYANT.

Regards,

Dave

Hello cp,

It's not Caroline:

Deaths Jun 1880
Carter Caroline Priscilla 53 Portsea 2b 291

Hampshire Telegraph and Sussex Chronicle etc (Portsmouth, England), Saturday, June 26, 1880; Issue 4998.
DEATHS
CARTER - On the 17th inst, at St. George's-square, Portsea, Miss Caroline Priscilla Carter, aged 53 years.

I can't see the BRYANT - CARTER marriage.

-----
1851
DAVIS Maria K, D;v 1826, age 25, Portsea <--------is that D for divorce?
DAVIS Maria K, Visitor Lu Child 1849, age 1-4mths, Portsea
DAVIS Edward, V;so 1848, age 3, Portsea

1861
DAVIS Kate, granddaughter 1850, age 11, Portsea, Hampshire
DAVIS Edward, grandson 1851, age 10, Portsea, Hampshire

Ages for children seem all skewed. One of the two died well before the other.

Regards,

Dave

Hello cp,

Do as in ditto (for daughter) Visitor Married 25

Please check the next two lines to see if it helps with sorting the ages of the children.

The Mar Q 1851 would be Edward with the middle name Carter so he would be
3 months or 3 weeks so Maria must be older yet it says 1-4 months. ??

Dave

I can't see Edward in the index for 1911 and I can't see a death 1901-1911.

Edward is single therefore did his sister marry a BRYANT?

possible
Marriages Mar 1870
Bryant William Rowling Barnet 3a 145
Davis Kate Mary Barnet 3a 145

Regards,

Dave

Hello cp,

Thanks. That's them. :D

I'd say the census was originally correct and Edward was 3 months or weeks and then the 3 was changed to the years column. It looks as though he was born in 1851 and has Carter as a middle name. I still can't see him in 1911 or his death.

Sister Kate M is still a puzzle. I can't see how it became 1-4 months.

This one matches the names in the marriage:

Births Dec 1849
DAVIS Kate Mary Portsea I 7 177

Regards,

Dave

Hello cp,

Thanks.

Sailors wife and Army pensioner and single. ??? Right age and right birth place.

One aged 73 is in the Chelsea (Army) Pensioners Hospital in 1911 I would guess. :)

Dave

Hello cp,

We have the two children in 1871
BRYANT, K M Lodger Wife F 20 1851 Portsea, Hampshire (Agent's Wife)
DAVIS, E Lodger M 20 1851 Portsea, Hampshire (Agent Mercantile)

So where is Maria in 1871? Not with her father or her children.
A widow in 1881. I wonder when George died. Lots of possible deaths for George.

Regards,

Dave
