I often wonder how a marriage occured in a Parish, out of the Grooms Parish, or the potentail Brides.

For instance: My 7x Gramps, William Clarke, of Monks Risborough in Bucks, married Jane Tomson, of Marlow, Bucks, in 1707. Marlow.

It's not exactly the end of the earth away, about 12 miles, as the crow flies. between the two Parishes. Did the brides father advertse for a husband for his daughter.

I have a few marriages further away than that, but how do they find each other. Does the potential groom cruise around on his horse, untill he finds the girl of his dreams. :giggle:
It baffles me, in that day and age. Not exactly bristling with social media, was it.
