Hi

My great, great grandmother wed her first husband in St George In The East, London in September 1858. They married by license. They were both susally of Leigh On Sea, essex as they both grew up there. Although the marriage cert says that Caroline was of Leigh, Essex and George was of Upper Berner Street, St George, London. He was a mariner. They did return to Essex after the wedding.

If George set up a temporary residence in London, would it have been just for a week or so while they had the license sorted as a license was quicker than banns. Plus is it possible that Caroline travelled from Leigh on Sea to London just for the day to get wed or would she have spent a night or a few nights in London either just before or just after the wedding?
