marriage driscoll/delaney

Hi,
Could someone please check for a marriage for a Daniel Driscoll and a Jane Ann Delaney. They are on the 1881 census as husband and wife living on Sayes Street Deptford yet i cannot find a marriage for them. As Jane was only 19 in 1881 and they had one child, John, who was 1 month old im assuming that they hadnt been married long, so maybe around the 1880 approx. Maybe they didnt marry???? Would be greatful for some help please.

I couldnt find a marriage, but if you go back to the 1881 census, above the Driscolls are a Delaney family from Ireland and on the previous page.

Hi Julie, I did find the Delaney family next door as well. I thought maybe Jane's family. I wonder if they may have married in Ireland. One would think that been 1881, catholic and living next door to her parents that they would have married or they would have given the neighbourhood something to talk about!! I have no idea where to start checking Ireland out as they dont have on the census where Jane was born, it just says Ireland. I will put a post in the Ireland section and see if anyone has any tips. Thanks for checking for me.

I see the Head of the household in 1881 in Deptford, Kent was a Richard Delaney with wife Elizabeth and their children Dennis, Mary aged 15, Catherine aged 12 and Richard aged 11.

On the IGI there are these births.

25 NOV 1864 0301, Sneem, Kerry, Ireland, Mary delaney daughter of Richard and Elizabeth.

26 MAY 1867 , Kerry, Ireland, Catherine, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Delaney formerly Barnett.

10 DEC 1869 , Kerry, Ireland, Richard, son of Richard Delaney and Elizabeth formerly Barnett.

The birthdates of those Ireland Delaney births tie in with the ages of Mary, Catherine and Richard in 1881 in Deptford, so if they are Jane's siblings, then this must mean that Jane was born in Kerry, Ireland.

Also a Margaret Delaney was baptised 11 DEC 1873 Roman Catholic, Killarney, Kerry, Ireland daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Delaney formerly Barnett.

Hi Ben, Many thanks for that. I thought i might have to give up on this part of my research as i couldnt find anything and you did it in no time at all. Goes to show i dont know what im doing!!! I was beginning to think the only thing i was going to get from this research was grey hair, not from the research but from the length of time it was taking me.:2fun: Anyway, im off to check out more on what you found. This may be the same Richard Delaney in Deptford 1881.
