Hi:)

Could someone please tell me how/if I can get more information on a marriage I found on the IGI site.
The marriage took place on the 1st of March in 1835 at Manchester Cathedral. It just states the names of the bride and groom the date, batch number, and source number.
Please help me as I don't know where to go from here!

Thanks Maggie:)

Hi Sue,

Ive had a look at the link you kindly gave me, thank you.
I have looked on there previously and couldn't find anything then, I must be a little dim because I still cant find anything.
I have tried Lancashire OPC but haven't had any luck finding the couple.

Thanks again,
Maggie:)

Hi Maggie
This is my understanding, so I could be wrong.
Before 1837 there was no standard way of recording a marriage, and the information in the church register depended on the Vicar. If he was so minded he would give parents, grandparents witnesses occupations addresses and even the pet dogs name, but mostly they only gave the minimal amount of info, eg like you have. In my experience the smaller the parish the more info you got.

please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Dave

You could be right there because I imagine Manchester Cathedral would be a very large church.
Does this mean I cant go any further in this line of my family?

Regards Maggie

Great news!

I now have in my hands the 1835 marriage certificate, so its possible and you can get a certificate.

My dear cousin who lives in the UK managed to obtain a copy.

Just thought I would let you all know, its possible:)

Dave, the vicar was very kind and included two witness', not much else:)

Regards

Maggie:)

Nice one Maggie.:)

If records still exist, and if you can trace them down. There shouldn't be no problem getting a copy of any marriage entry before 1837 reg.

I have a few going into the late 1600's and early 1700's.

Getting a copy is the easy bit though. It's finding the blighters.

Same with baptism records.
