Hello

Would it be possible for someone to lookup a marriage for
Henry John Ryder BUSH

I've always thought this chap never married as the census records list him as unmarried.

1861 age 19 13 Cornwall Street, Stoke Damerel, Devon Medical Student
1871 age 29 25 Warwick Street, Westminster, London – Medical Practitioner
1881 age 39 41 Gilbert Street, Westminster, London – Surgeon

Born 1841 Devonport, Devon
Died 1883 Westminster, London

Medical Journal 1863 mentioned in Royal College of surgeons
London Gazette 1868 4 Beak Street, Golden Square, Middlesex

To my great surprise:eek: I came across a marriage article in the New Zealand newspaper (Papers Past) which tells me Henry J R BUSH did marry as he had a son henry BUSH.
MARRIAGE

BUSH - FARNIE June 1st, at William Street Westleyan Church, by Rev J A Nolan, assisted by Rev R Bavin, Henry eldest son of the late Henry John Ryder Bush, M.R.C.S, of London, to Mary second daughter of the late Captain John Farnie, of Wanganui, N.Z. Portsmouth papers please copy.

This marriage took place in Sydney, Australia
NSW BDM
1892 m Henry BUSH Mary FARNIE Sydney
1949 d Henry BUSH father Henry John Ryder Chatswood (mother name not listed) "rats"

No birth for Henry Bush in N.S.W, therefore probably born in England.

So I'm guessing a marriage between 1862-1873 in London/Middlesex area.

cheers

Hi crankypants.

I take it that you have looked on Ancestry.com BMD indexes? I have had another look but cannot find a marriage. Was Mary the wife of Henry JR Bush or his son Henry?

His birth may have just been registered as John Ryder Bush

John Ryder Bush 1844 Oct-Nov-Dec Stoke Damerel Devon Ref 9 451

He may have had a brother Thomas

Thomas Ryder Bush 1845 Oct-Nov-Dec Stoke Damerel Devon Ref 9 425

Hi Ben

Mary FARNIE is the wife of Henry BUSH, son of Henry John Ryder BUSH.
The marriage article was placed in the New Zealand paper because her father and possibly Mary were originally from this region. Their marriage took place in Australia.

Yes I have all the details of Henry John Ryder BUSH parents & siblings, and
Henry did have a brother named John Ryder BUSH 1844, Crazy hey.

Yes I have gone through the marriages, if his name was registered as Henry BUSH I've got no hope in finding him.

Thanks for your help Ben.

cheers

Hi Julie

The John Ryder BUSH marriage to Fanny OXLEY is Henry John Ryder BUSH brother.

I have researched all of John Ryder BUSH line, plus two more of their siblings who never married, two other siblings both died in 1854. John was a Mariner living between England & Australia. On one of his travels off the Queensland coast he went insane and jumped overboard. Just a tad different to the family notes saying he fell overboard, poor chap. Also his wife remarried about 2 months later!!! she must of been a quick griever. Me thinks before his last trip he came home to find someone warming his bed.>:D

It's thrown me when reseaching Henry John Ryder BUSH he was always shown as unmarried in 1861/71/81 census.

As I couldn't find Henry J R BUSH marriage I searched for his son Henry BUSH in the census. As his son Henry BUSH married in 1892 he would have been born a rough guess between 1861-1874 in the London region.

Also the announcement of Henry BUSH marriage says he is eldest son of the late Henry J R Bush, so there's more!!!!!!

Now was this common for an up and coming Surgeon to hide his marriage??? as he is a Lodger in the census years. Or was he lodging to be closer to the hospital or his practice. I know around 1864 he dissolved a partnership with Dr. Keys. Was his wife living with her parents.!!!!

This week I have found Henry BUSH & Mary FARNIE children's births, their marriages, plus their deaths, their children's marriages. May have to track a living relative to find out if they know who H.J.R.BUSH married.

It's all fun:biggrin:

Thanks for your help.
cheers

Thought is was to good to be true. He's a bit of a dark horse! :D
Hi Julie

Thanks anyway, need all the help I can get.

It's a shame Henry BUSH does not have his mother's name listed on his death. Just may order a transcribed certificate.

By the way this is my brother-in-law's tree, seems I'm more interested in his tree than my sister and her husband.

After 5 minutes of telling them what I have found they seem to go into that "do you really need to tell me all this".

Anyway I love it so that's all that matters.:) :)

cheers
