MARSHALL/GOULD/BLACKMAN Portsmouth

#1
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone has any information on the MARSHALL family living in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England from 1877 onwards?
I have found that Jane PASSINGHAM married John BLACKMAN in 1873 at Portsea. It would appear that the couple had the following children:-
Ellen BLACKMAN (b. 1877)
Ada Gould BLACKMAN (b.1878)
Edward Gould BLACKMAN (b.1879)
Laura Gould BLACKMAN (b.1880)

Strangely all four children were baptised as MARSHALL in 1881, before Jane married Edward MARSHALL in 1882.

Cannot find any link to why their middle name was GOULD?

Later, Thomas MARSHALL was born in 1889 and Elsie MARSHALL in 1892.

I believe I have traced all the girls, but Edward and Thomas are proving really difficut to locate.

I believe Edward may have been in the Royal Navy on HMS Indefatigable according to the 1901 Census. At the same time Thomas may have been in an orphanage at Hextable, Sutton on Hone.

The only other entry I can find for Thomas is the 1911 Census where there is a listing of an Army Service Corps Soldier/Baker at Roberts Heights in Pretoria South Africa.

Can anyone help please ?

Thanks.
