BACKUS - WHITE.-On 24th August, 1892, at the residence of the bride's parents, by the Rev. Father O'Driscoll, JACOB HENRY BACKUS to MARY ANN WHITE, both of Grafton.

PERSONAL
Mrs. Jacob Backus, an old resident of Grafton, died on Saturday, aged 60 years, leaving a husband and grown-up family.

This may not be the right birth - not Mary A, mother not Elizabeth J and Penrith a long way from Grafton.

The death of Mrs. Jane White, Bacon-street, Grafton, which occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Bachus, at the advanced age of 86, removes another of Grafton's oldest residents. Her husband for many years was wharfinger at the C. and R.R.S.N. Go's, wharf, and subsequently conducted a butchering business in Bacon-street. The funeral took place this forenoon.

Mmm going by age in the death notice [1916] it states Jane was 86 so born around 1830 therefore she would have been around 33 when she had Mary Ann in 1863, maybe she might have had a previous marriage?? Only saying that as they usually married younger that in the 30's??

Yes gibbo. Thinking it was second marriage for both.

If Edward was born Dublin then he arrived as some time.

Been searching Trove and finding nothing before 1862.
