I am trying to find more information about Mary Ann Cannon the only information which I have about her is below:-

Spouse: Harry Slade
Marriage
16 Apr 1892 Marylebone

1901 Census Entry

Name Age, Where Born, Civil Parish, County
Harry Slade 36 London Islington Lewisham London
Mary A Slade 33 London Peckham Lewisham London
Olive A Slade 4 London Camberwell Lewisham London
Edward H Slade 6 London Camberwell Lewisham London

She died after 1960, I met her on one occasion as a child so I think It must be 1960 or later that she died. She would have been living in Croydon at the time of her death.

Any information gratefully received

Julie,

Many Thanks for the information what year was the registration of the death?

I think I will have to get the marriage certificate to get any further the date of the marriage comes from a family tree drawn up by my Granddad so is probably correct as she would have still been alive when it was drawn up!

Many Thanks you have done a lot of work here!

I have been looking at the birth index for Surrey and there are three Mary Ann Cannons of about the correct age:

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Births Jun 1867
CANNON Mary Ann St. George S. 1d 170
Births Sep 1868
CANNON Mary Ann St. Saviour 1d 11
Births Dec 1868
CANNON Mary Ann Bermondsey 1d 66

I am inclind to think that she is the first one as she is shown as 25 years old on the marriage certificate 16 April 1892 and 33 in the 1901 31 March census this would be inconsistant unless her birthday was at the begining of April 1867.

The Polly entry looks to be the correct age 13/14 for the 1881 census.

Many Thanks

Hi,

I have just received her Birth Certificate so we had got the correct Family.:D

Parents
Father Henry Thomas Cannon
Mother Elisa Grace Cannon formerly Dear

Born 9 April 1867
Address 2 Gilberts Place, Southwark,
Occupation of father: Gas fitters porter.

It is odd that she does not show up as a member of the family in the censes entries.

It would be good to find the family in the 1871 census to see if she is shown in that!

I have found the following entries for her Parents Marriage::)

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Cannon Henry Thomas Lambeth 1d 461
Deer Eliza Grace Lambeth 1d 461

Marriage: 11 MAR 1860 St Mary, , Surrey, England
Husband
Henry Thomas Cannon
Father: Henry John Cannon
Wife
Eliza Grace Deer
Father: Thomas William Deer

Many Thanks

Ed

Hi,

Many thanks for looking at the 1871 Census again.

It looks to me as if there are two Eliza Cannons

One born 1861 only 2 days old in the census entry and the second born 1864 shown in the 1891 census as the younger sister of Betsy born 1862.

I think I have got that wrong I think that the Eliza in the 1861 census and Betsy are the same person.

There is no birth record for Eliza Cannon in 1861 and the birth record for Betsy Cannon is in the June 1/4 of 1861 which would match with the birth at the beginning of April.

Many thanks again.

Re: Mary Ann Cannon & Eliza

I want to comment on previous messages posted earlier, about Eliza Cannon,

The 1891 UK census specifies besides the parents Henry T Cannon and Eliza G Cannon, a Betsy [29], an Eliza [27], Thomas [20], Arthur [17] and Frederick [15]-
Il looks like Betsy and Eliza are 2 different souls.

The 1881 UK census shows Eliza [7] living with Fewell family.
My husband is related to the Springthorpe mentioned there. This is the connection between all these people :
-William Fewell [70] and wife Maria, nee Deer [68]
-Sarah Springthorpe, nee Fewell [60], and granddaughter Louisa Springthorpe [6]
-Eliza Cannon [17] being grandniece of Maria. Her mother is Eliza Grace Canon, nee Deer. Her grandfather is William Thomas Deer, brother of Maria.
The Deer siblings, whose parents are William Thomas and Sarah Deer are [so far] Jane, Isabel, Eliza Grace and Matilda.

Hope that can help someone.

Hi,

I have been trying to work this out with the information that I have.

The information that I have for Eliza Grace Deer is a christening:-

1834 Christening ELIZA GRACE DEER
Christening: 30 NOV 1834 Saint John The Evangelist, Lambeth, Surrey, England
Father: THOMAS DEER
Mother: ELIZABETH

Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date.

This does not match in that you have her parents as you are showing them as William Thomas and Sarah.

Mary Ann Cannon is my Great Grandmother.

Thanks

Ed

Elizabeth Deer 35 y
Mary Deer 15 y

Thomas Deer 11 y
Emma Deer 9 y
Elizabeth Deer 7 y
