hello everyone, my mother was well pleased with the family tree i gave her on crimbo day - many thanks to all who helped my research . :)

im now stuck on another line, this time its Mary Ann Easey who the census tells me was born in Laxfield, Suffolk in about 1791.

she appeared to have had a colourful life, having 3 children out of wedlock before getting married to Joseph Lockwood in Laxfield . however, i cannot find her christening, (ok she might not have been) or any record of her birth, nor any likely marriage of her potential parents.

any info regarding her possible parents/birth would be most welcome, thanks.

Looks to be a little complex as you suggest.

Something to ponder...

A few other researchers [trees] have her parents as [Not validated]:

"William Bickers
1778–1863
Ann Easey
1754–1855"

Marriage not validated

thats interesting.... what is a 'not validated' marriage?... one they might have lied about? ann would be over 40 when she married william bickers with him being 20 years younger... sounds odd to me. how can this ever be checked out?

mind you if ann was a lose woman its no wonder that her daughter mary ann was.

my grandmother was a huge snob, yet appears to have come from a pretty immoral line (her great and great great grandmothers), maybe she had knowlege of her past and tried hard to rise above it.

The information in quotation marks is suggested by other researchers and not verified. I had a quick look at possible sources and could not find them, hence the not validated comment.

Sometimes research carried out by others can be a useful source or lead. That said, it is always wise to double-check that type of info anyway.

well the unconfirmed marriage does add up to the census's. im happy enough to accept it with caution.

i cannot find a christening for ann easey in dunwich in the 1750's, and as shes over 40 when she married william bickers, maybe it was her second marriage - her first being to an easey.

and after all that, its still uncertain that shes related to 'my' known ancestor - mary ann.


ps...i know 'easeys' lived in dunwich because i saw a gravestone for william easey on a tv prog about dunwich many years ago. i believe its gone now, victim of erosion

i think thats 'my' mary anns eldest child, born in 1812, its not 'casey' but 'easey' and would be anns granddaughter! it looks like mary anns harriot was named after her half sister born soon after the marriage of ann and william.

think the link has been established.

the 1861 census confirms the above thoughts on harriet... :)
she lives with harriet and william at 'bicker hill'... interesting, i wonder if theres a familiar connection.

yeah ive seen william was a shoemaker, the census tells us that too.

i wonder if the laxfield parish registers are missing or not transcribed online, as i expect thats where mary ann was christened, and william and ann were married both in the 1790's.

i can find no birth for ann easey/easy anywhere in suffolk let alone dunwich.

i cant find a marriage to an 'ann' by an easey either (c1775-1795) which could have been anns possible first marriage.
