Thanks gibbo. :2fun:

I've done nothing on the Ellis family so I have no idea yet. I stated to do a bit on the Roberts:

Thomas Roberts & Mary Griffiths
26 August 1830 Manchester, Lancashire

and the 1841 census today.

A huge number of possible birth reg for Mary in England.

Maybe Emma is the mother ?? On Mary Ann's death index mother is Mary E. Wonder if the E is for Emma.

We need a tree to lead us astray.

Nothing stands out. We don't even know what county.

Found one. :2fun:

One tree has Mary Ann born Cornwall in 1845 to parents Joseph and Amy.

The tree has her death in 1924.

We have the right death for John H. and Mary Ann is buried with him so we have the right death for Mary and the tree is wrong. The tree has arrival in 1858.

The Sydney Morning Herald - Thursday 18 July 1935 p.10
DEATHS
ROBERTS.-July 17, 19315,at her residence Wilga, Auburn-road, Auburn, Mary Ann, relict of late John Hartley, aged 92 years.

It may be the correct arrival. Not sure about parents as listed on death reg.

Perhaps:

1851
Piece: HO107/1917 Place: Uny Lelant -Cornwall Enumeration District: 2c
Civil Parish: Ludgvan Ecclesiastical Parish: -
Folio: 136 Page: 2 Schedule: 7
Address: Crowlas
Surname First name(s) Rel Status *** Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
ELLIS Joseph Head M M 31 Shop Keeper Cornwall - Buryan
ELLIS Ann Wife M F 30 Cornwall - Buryan
ELLIS Mary Ann Dau - F 5 Cornwall - Buryan
ELLIS Richard Son - M 2 Cornwall - Buryan
ORKLING John George Lodger M M 27 Contractor Warwickshire - -
ELLIS Emily Dau - F 8m Cornwall - Ludgvan
UREN Margaret Servnt S F 17 Cornwall - Uny Lelant

It looks like Anne and Mary and Richard in shipping record plus Joseph 3 and Emma 32 ?

Yes. Looks like father is Joseph and the informant got it wrong. The tree is very wrong with the death of Mary in 1924. Also looks as though mother is Ann(e). Emma is probably a sister-in-law.

So Joseph ELLIS has a sister Emma and he married Ann(e) Unknown.

Possible:

Marriages Mar Qtr 1843
ELLIS Joseph Penzance 9 215
Richards Ann Penzance 9 215

Births Dec Qtr 1846
Ellis Mary Ann Penzance 9 214

Almost. :)

I might have a look at the Cornwall images on FS for that parish.

Just wondering why the tree has parents as Joseph and Amy. Amy didn't come off the death reg so where did it come from? Shipping record? I have the vessel on my list to look up next week at the State Library.
