Hello Emeltee,

Thank you very much.

This is my third attempt to solve this mystery. Not made any easier by the number of possible name variations.

There are several trees and all seem to say Mary Ann was born 1843 - 1846 in Devon. She was in Australia by 1863.

One tree has her parents as per her death reg as William and Elizabeth.

Another has her parents as John and Hester with a baptism in 1843 Shrewton, Wiltshire. This tree has her with family in 1851 and 1861 in Wiltshire.

One thing I did notice, the family name is quite common in Wiltshire. So with no arrival and no death one tree author could be guessing about parents names and that Mary Ann was still with family in 1851 and 1861.

The other author may have the death reg and assume it is correct in naming her parents as William and Eliza, but then it's not easy finding such a couple.

I think I just said I'm fishing. :)

Regards,

Dave

I don't have a copy of the 1863 marriage so I'm guessing that is where the 'born Devon' comes from. I also have no age at death yet.

I can't find birth reg for the children in the census in post #2 or the marriage anywhere in England.

If this one born Travistock can be found in 1871 then that's one we can rule out.

The John & Hester family in Shrewton, Wiltshire is said to contain:

Jane 1842
Mary Ann 1843
Emma 1845
Louisa E 1850
Edwin J 1852

Shrewton is in Amesbury RD.

This one fits:
Births Jun 1849
Ruddle Louisa Ellen Amesbury 8 284

Births Mar 1843
Ruddle Mary A* Amesbury 8 263

Births Jun 1851
Ruddle Edwin James Amesbury 8 299

Not sure about this one:
Births Jun 1845
Ruddle Emma Pewsey 8 402

Can't find Jane.

Well, this Mary Ann was not born Devon, but I'd still like to rule her out by finding her still in England after 1863. Need proof before I say one tree can be totally ignored.

Can a Mary Ann born Travistock abt 1843 be found in 1871?

Also can a Mary Ann born Devizes abt 1840 be found in 1871?

Looking only for unmarried RUDDLE/RIDDALL (variations).

From what is in FS I doubt either can be found.
