Hi all,
Is there someone that can look in the 1901 census for Mary Ann 's family. She must have been between 15 or 17. She married Thomas Halton in Ulverston during 1904 and they emigrated to South Africa after that. There are probably 2 families in which Mary Ann was a daughter. I'm not sure which one is the correct family. I'm trying to find my mother's family in the UK and it is very difficult from South Africa.
Thanks in advance & regards.:)

Hi Andre,

1901 census:

The Mary A Tyson age 15 born Derby, Derbyshire is a servant in the household of a family surname butcher. Mary Ann Tyson born 1885 June 1/4 Derby, Derbyshire, there is another Mary Ann Tyson born 1885 Sept 1/4 district Shardlow, Derbyshire but she didnt come up on the census with those details. Still advise you to get marriage cert for Mary and Thomas.
Mary Ann Tyson/Thomas Halton 1904 Dec 1/4 dist Ulverston, vol 8e page 1389, the certificate can be ordered on line it costs seven pounds sterling see link below:-

July,
Thanks very much, I was really hoping she was still with her own family. Pretty devided family. I'm pretty sure this is the correct Mary, born 1886.
I will get a Marriage certificate, but I'm afraid it will have blank info where father's info should be, but I will have to run the risk.
Regards

July,
I could not find the family in 1891 where Mary A is supposed to be about 5, as if their household was missed during census.
Thanks & regards.

Andre,

What about this birth for Mary Ann Tyson year 1886 dist Bootle Sept 1/4 vol. 10b page 666.

Julie
 July,
I have a very strong suspicion that this M A Tyson is the same one as Maryann Tyson you fond in 1891 census and is the same one that married Thomas Halton in 1904. I also think she is the one that was with Butcher family in 1901 census. On my timeline, she is the only one that fits the dates I have....1886 - born, 1904 - married. I must still figure out, why the one was born in Bootle and the other is Derby. Isn't it more or less the same area?
Regards.

Hi Andre,

The Mary Ann Tyson born 1886 in Bootle is an alternative for Bootle Cul and in the county of Cumberland. Derbyshire is a completely different county.

You cannot always go by the age on the census as this varies. There is a Mary A Tyson on the 1901 census born Bootle Cumberland her year of birth is given abt 1888 parents William and Frances. William's occ is a limestone quarryman. Cannot locate them on the 1891 census yet.

Julie,

Thanks for still trying.

I need to have some confidence in my info before I can apply for certificates as it is very expensive from here. Your 7 pound sterling is equal to 102 rand in my currency.

My 1891 census indicate William born Bootle <1883> & Frances but without a Mary. Only 4 sons. Occ iron ore miner. I could download households from 1891census in gedcom and manage to create the families in PAF. Nothing link to what I have with any confidence.

Had a look at a map and saw Bootle and Derbyshire different.

Could you see the rest of her family in the 1901 census? Is it possible to copy the info for me?

Regards.

Hi Andre,

The Mary Ann Tyson born Bootle Cul (her place of birth is down as St. Bees) is on the 1891 census, Ancestry had transcribed them as Syson but definately Tyson on the census image.

civil parish Arlecdon registration dist Whitehaven, sug reg dist Harrington

Wm Tyson head age 33 occ limestione quarry lab born Corney
Frances Tyson wife age 36 wife born Aspartria
Issac Tyson son age 8 born Cumberland
Jane Tyson dau age 6 born Dearham
James Tyson son age 5 born St Bees
Mary age 3 dau age 3 born St Bees (different place of birth)
William Tyson son age 1 month born Bootle
Sarah Annie Tyson sister age 23 born Arlecdon

Will check out spellings of places of birth.

Funnily enough I found another Tyson family born in Lincolnshire with one of the sons with the name of Herbert Wilson Tyson. This can get quite confusing.

Here they are on the 1901

civil parish Arlecdon, reg dsit Whitehaven, sub reg dist Harrington

Frances Tyson wife age 40 born Aspatria Cumberland
" " dau age 5 born Arlecdon
Isabella Tyson dau age 1 born Arlecdon
Mary Tyson dau born Bootle age 13
William Tyson head age 43 born Corney
William Tyson son age 10 born Arlecdon

Julie,
Close..with Mary...........but brother William is about 17 years to young for Florence McBride.
Father William, born Corney(my 1881 census), married to Frances (your 1891 census), is currently unlinked in my Tyson tree. But I have another William, born Bootle about 1833, married to a Frances (1881 census). Seems to be two different pairs, William's and Frances's. It now indicate Maryann born 1886, Derbyshire as the likely bride of Thomas Halton.
More research for me.....
Thanks & regards.

Hi Julie,
Thanks and yes I will. I'm still trying to match what I have to other sources to see if I can get a better confidence level for what I do have.
Thanks again for all your feedback and assistance, much appreciated.
