I am researching the Maillard family. I have come to a brick wall in England with Mary Anne Maillard born circa 1792 in Ashley Hill, Bristol and married to Daniel Britton born 1784 in Caer Britto, Ashley Hill, Bristol – marriage date 12 Oct 1811. Mary Anne died in 1857 and she was the daughter of William Maillard of Bristol (of a French family). I found this information in Burke’s Family Records (Indexed) and supported to a degree in “Visitation of England and Wales”.

Daniel Britton is in my family tree as a 1st cousin 8x removed to my daughter-in-law.

I have an extensive line of Maillards born in France and migrated to Nova Scotia in Canada and I need to connect this line to a Maillard in England. The expression “of a French family” suggests to me that Mary Anne’s father William was either born in France and moved to England or his parents are French.

I am fairly confident that I am on track with Mary Anne but haven’t proved it as yet. If any one can assist, I would be very grateful.

Thank you Ellie7 for your prompt responses. Much appreciated. I had seen the “Visitations of England and Wales” document – in fact – I found another site for “Visitations etc” but have forgotten the web address – it actually displayed photos of both Daniel and Mary Anne – fortunately I did copy the photos on to my computer. But what I am hoping to find is proof that William Maillard is in fact Mary Anne’s father, but more importantly – where he was born and who his parents were. I need to connect them back to my French line if possible.

I think the FS record showing Mary Anne born 1761 is wrong. I was fairly certain that her birth year was 1788 or 1792 but I now think it is most likely to be 1788 – your record showing her baptism probably confirms this – thank you very much. And I like the marriage record for William & Elizabeth – seems to fit in nicely. The big question for me still is – was William born in England or France and who were his parents?

I had almost given up a few hours ago – you have given me new hope!

It looks like my last reply went astray – or maybe I’m tired – it’s late evening here in Australia – for me anyway! So here goes again – I think the FS record showing Mary Anne Maillard born in 1761 is wrong – I always thought she was born in either 1788 or 1792. Your record re her christening date likely confirms this. And William’s marriage to Elizabeth Baker is very helpful. All I need now is William’s DOB and his parents – not asking much – am I!!
