Alice is a sister of Mary Anne, both born Co Leitrim, Ireland.

Marriage not found.

QLD Birth 29 Apr 1872/B13912 Naughton Anne - James - Alice Kilfedder * Odd

VIC Birth 1874 NAUGHTON Rebecca - James Alice KILFEDDER b. Sandridge Vic. #19144

Death 13020/1927 NAUGHTON Alice 80 KILFEDER Michael ? Mary Ann ? UNK d. Ballarat, Vic.

Parents are John & Anne nee Knox.

Can't find a notice in Trove ?

Alice was a widow and died in Ballarat Hospital age 80.
Alice was buried on 10 Nov, 1927 at Ballarat New Cemetery in Church of England "G", Section 2, Row 1, Grave 23.

Coincidence both 'married' a Naughton ??

The first Naughton birth with mother as Mary Ann is 1877 in Vic. so no overlap of births.

Thanks Val.

Pity it only says Mrs Naughton in the notice.

Don't know how Alice ended up in Qld. for the birth of first child.

Burial records show same grave so death is 1922.

Death 521/1922 NAUGHTON James 82 James Unk MOORE d. Brunswick, Vic.

Age is way out so may not be correct arrival. Age 30 in 1878 also does not fit.

Children include
1877 NAUGHTON James Forristal James Forristal KILFEDDEN Mary Ann Richmond Vic. #10942
1881 NAUGHTON Mary Ellen James KILFEDDER Annie Sunb Vic. #12783

"The death cert for James Naughton (husband of MARY ANN (aka Ann) Kilfedder) says that he arrived in 1853. He died aged 82 in 1922 and lived in Victoria for 69 years, married in Ireland 1870, first child born in Australia in 1877)..."

Something is very odd about this. Death certificate says he married in Ireland in 1870 but the marriage is to Alice. First child born in Qld. in 1877 but mother is Alice. Next one born 1874 and mother is Alice. Death certificate has 'wife' as Mary Ann (aka Ann/Anne).

Unassisted Inward to Victoria
Jan 1871 'Essex' 300 006
Kilfeder Alice 23
Kilfeder Rebecca 20
The 'Essex' sailed from Plymouth on 10 Nov 1870 arriving at Melbourne on 25 Jan 1871.
The Captain was Charles Hodder.

Alice b. 9 Dec 1846

Don't know Ellie. Another researcher of this family always doubted James a labourer could have afforded to return to Ireland to marry.

It's looking very much as if James left Alice and took up with her younger sister. Alice died in 1927 but buried CofE which is odd or it's the wrong death for Alice.

Other possibility is that the Alice in the 1870 marriage is one who had not left Ireland.

Death 13020/1927 NAUGHTON Alice 80 KILFEDER Michael ? Mary Ann ? UNK d. Ballarat, Vic.

Parents there do not fit the Alice who arrived with sister Rebecca.

If that is the death of the Alice who married in Ireland then we have no marriage or death for the Alice who arrived with Rebecca - parents John & Anne.

I can't make sense of this.

The Alice who arrived with Rebecca can't be the one who married in 1870 in Ireland.

Only one death found so far in Vic. for an Alice Naughton.

No hits in Trove for "Alice Kilfeder" or "Alice Kilfedder"

No death in Vic. for an Alice (any surname) with parents John & Anne Knox.
