A James Naughton married Mary Ann OLEARY in 1870 and had children in Richmond area 1871-87.

The other problem is that there is only one death in Vic. for an Alice Naughton.

Death 13020/1927 NAUGHTON Alice 80 KILFEDER Michael ? Mary Ann ? UNK d. Ballarat, Vic.

Alice was a widow and died in Ballarat Hospital age 80.
Alice was buried on 10 Nov, 1927 at Ballarat New Cemetery in Church of England "G", Section 2, Row 1, Grave 23.

If that is Alice who arrived with sister Rebecca then there is no marriage to a Naughton and parents are wrong - should be John & Anne

If it is the death of the Alice who arrived with James in 1871 then she was deserted in 1878.

Only the one Naughton birth in Vic. with mother = Alice Kilfeder

1914 VIC Electoral Roll - Bourke - Brunswick
NAUGHTON James, 113 Evans st., East Brunswick,
NAUGHTON Annie, 113 Evans st., East Brunswick, home duties

Edward, Minnie & Thomas = Oleary.

So do we have 3x James and two of them ex police at Prahran or just one with descriptions that differ.

No doubt about this.

Unassisted Inward passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923
KILFEDER ALICE 23 JAN 1871 ESSEX B 300 006
KILFEDER REBECCA 20 JAN 1871 ESSEX B 300 006

Rebecca's notice has 'sister of Mrs Naughton' and no mention of other siblings.

Back to these two.

Qld. Birth 29 Apr 1872/B13912 Naughton Anne James Alice Kilfedder

Vic. Birth 1874 NAUGHTON Rebecca James Alice KILFEDDER b. Sandridge, Vic. #19144

Qld. one is ok.

The birth in Sandridge and the death for a widow Alice Naughton in Ballarat and buried CofE Ballarat would fit Alice sister of Rebecca (buried CofE) but parents are not John & Anne.

3x James Naughton ??

James NAUGHTON, born in Clare, who married Bridget GRIFFIN in Vic. in 1866/7, with whom he had 3 children in Richmond 1869-71.

John K's address in the early 1870's looks to be 42 Barkly Street, Carl.

He gets a number of mentions in the Police Gazette for the right reasons.
