Mary Caldwell married James Stewart, 7 May 1841.

Unable to find them together in the 1841 Scotland Census.

The only baptism found was to William Caldwell and Catherine Francis Shakleton McKinnal., 1820 Maybole. William(of Maybole) & Catherine(this Town), married 12 Feb 1810 • Stranraer. (Mary Ann Shackleton Caldwell).

Now the problem is Mary Stewart(nee' Caldwell) 1897 death cert gives mothers name as Jane Baird.??

Any other ideas welcome.(y)

Do you have any children from the marriage?

I have found William baptised Maybole 10 September 1841 parents James Stewart and Mary Caldwell
Jane baptised 11 May 1845 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire parents as for William
John baptised 17 October 1850 Kilbirnie, Ayr parents as above.

1851
Glee Iron Works Kilbirnie
James Stewart 36 Furnace Keeper Ireland
Mary Stewart wife 34 Ireland
William Stewart son 10 Maybole
Jane Stewart dau 6 Maybole
Andrew Stewart son 3 Kilbirnie
John Stewart son 0 Kilbirnie

In 1861 the family, now with Isabella born 1854 and James 1857, are in Stevenston, Ayrshire. Mary has died and new wife is Margaret born Maybole 1819

Possible death for Mary

Mary Ellen Stewart 1860 Stevenston 615/81 mmn Caldwell

The version I have definitely says Margaret in 1861, however I only have access to a transcription, not an image of the original.
1871 she's living in Dalmellington under the name Mary Caldwell
1881 she's back to Mary Stewart and still in Dalmellington with sons John and James and granddaughters Mary and Ann
1891 Still in Dalmellington with son John. She is a servant to a Robert Stevenson and family and son John is a lodger.

The only death I can find is the one you have with mmn Baird, likewise the only birth I can find is the one you already have.

I wonder if Mary caldwell's father remarried a Jane/Jean/Jessie Baird.

Catherine Francis Shackleton(nee' McKinnal) Caldwell c1790, mother of Mary Caldwell seems to be still alive though in the 1851 census, living in North Strand Street, Stranraer, as a widow and a Annuitant.

Was William Caldwell a bigamist, or divorced.........who knows.?!
