This is very strange. That's Samuel, brother of Thomas, and his wife and family. Mary is lodging with them with two surviving children. If she was born England as 1861 census indicates why would she use her maiden name?

1851 Census

Can anything be found for James the weaver and soldier?

I can't find a marriage in England or Scotland 1800 - 1830.

Lots of possible deaths for James in England to 1868.

Thanks Geoff.

Don't know how accurate the born England is for Mary. I have the later census and the later marriages for Thomas.

John was elsewhere - his middle name is Clement.

Trying to sort Mary and her parents out.

One to ponder..

There is a bap of a George, parents James & Mary..

George Clement
Baptism Date: 10 Oct 1830
Parish: Salford, St Philip
Parish as it Appears: St Philips Church Manchester
Father: James Clement
Mother: Mary Clement
Item Number: 1
Archive Roll: 955
[Occ. Soldier]

If her father was a soldier, they could be anywhere..

Thanks Geoff.

Thomas would have no connection to Ashton-Under-Lyne or that church so I presume they met in Paisley and ended up getting married there because Mary had some connection.

The name is with and without the 's' in records but from John's middle name it is the less common Clement.

Still no sign of a marriage to a Mary Allison.

Other middle names for the children - Clarendon and Dow.

I have no idea where they came from.

Middle name Gifford is from an old army buddy of Thomas sen., Stephen Gifford.

I don't think that is the correct parents, James Crook is a clerk.. I haven't found that Mary, but there are other bap's with those parents in Pancras.
