I can't find anything on them anywhere apart from the 1851 Census. It's a page transcribed by the Manchester & Lancs FHS so I presume it is one of the many water damaged pages.

HO107/2233

Fleet Street, Ashton under Lyne

Thomas Angel 29 Lodger Married Plumber Scotland

He's lodging with a family called Simpson - no sign of Mary.

I think James Clement is more likely to be a soldier than a weaver.

Mary born abt 1822 and if George is a brother born abt 1830 then there are probably others in between.

So looking in Lancs OPC 1826 +/- 10 the only one

Baptism: 10 Oct 1830 St Philip, Salford, Lancashire, England
George Clements - [Child] of James Clements & Mary
Abode: Salford
Occupation: Soldier
Baptised by: Oswald Sergeant
Register: Baptisms 1826 - 1848, Page 18, Entry 139
Source: LDS Film 506449

I can find a Thomas Angel bapt. 1785 and brother John bapt. 1782 in Ilsington, parents John and Joan. No Samuel though. Ilsington is 6 miles NNE of Ashburton.

I can find a Samuel Angel bapt. Ashburton 1779 parents Richard and Elizabeth. Possibly they were cousins, not brothers.

Thanks Emeltee.

A lot of the family lore re Angel family has proved to be correct. Son Stephen went to sea at 14 - yes, and ended up in the gold fields of Victoria - yes.

The Samuel born Devon supposedly ended up as a minister in a church in Paisley for 30 years with a plaque on a wall in the church commemorating the fact.

I walked around Paisley in 2008 asking questions re Samuel and could find nothing to confirm the story.

My 2xg grandfather Stephen Angel and his wife Elizabeth Ann Lewton.

Married 1860 St. Mark's CofE Fitzroy, Vic.

One story was, because of his hair, that the family were Jewish lace makers from Lincolnshire. I'd say I've disproved that with his father Thomas, a labourer, going with the army to Paisley.
