Hi Dave,

I found two baptism's for Mary Smith father Henry, one has mother Ann the other Mary Ann :

Name: Mary Smith
Birth Date: 25 Mar 1837
Parish: Bingley, All Saints
Baptism Date: 30 Jun 1837
Father's name: Henry Smith
Mother's name: Ann Smith

Name: Mary Anne Smith
Birth Date: 7 Sep 1844
Parish: Hebden Bridge, St James and St John
Baptism Date: 5 Aug 1849
Father's name: Henry Bourn Smith
Mother's name: Mary Anne Smith

That's the closest I could get, could she be one of these??

Thanks Amanda.

I have very little to work with. It would help if Henry's occupation in 1851 matched or was similar to that in 1861 to confirm we have the same family in both years.

I have her name as just Mary in all records so far. Her marriage in 1861 has father as Henry but his occupation is not known.

I don't think either of those baptisms are right, I've found another one:

Name: Mary Smith
Parish: Halifax, St John the Baptist
Baptism Date: 12 Jun 1836
Father's name: Smith
Mother's name: Ann Smith

I know it doesn't give Henry as the father, but I've found William's baptism as well:

Name: William Smith
Parish: Halifax, St John the Baptist
Baptism Date: 7 Jun 1835
Father's name: Henry Smith
Mother's name: Ann Smith

Mary is a little older than we thought

I've found the family in the 1841 census:

Name: William Smith
Age: 5
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1836
Gender: Male
Where born: Yorkshire, England
Civil Parish: Halifax
Hundred: Morley
County/Island: Yorkshire
Country: England
Street address:

Occupation:

Registration district: Halifax
Sub-registration district: Northowram
Neighbors: View others on page
Piece: 1303
Book: 1
Folio: 40
Page Number: 18
Household Members:
Name Age
Henry Smith 30
Ann Smith 25
William Smith 5
James Smith 3

As you can see Mary is not with them, perhaps she is with other members of the family.

Thanks Amanda.

Mary shows as born 1840 is census through to 1911. Understated her age all the time ?

Occupation for Henry in 1841 and 1851?

I'm reasonably confident it's the right family in 1861 with Benjamin as the lodger.

Thanks,

Dave

In the 1841 and 1851 census Henry was a Woolcomber, of course he could have had more than one job. My g g grandfather was a Shopkeeper and Carpenter and his brother was a Shopkeeper and Tailor, hope this helps.
