Taking the two census as correct then trying to find the birth reg for the John aged 1 3/4 in 1841 and the maiden name of Elizabeth who married John Alfred Matthews.

There are quite a few marriages for a Matthews = Elizabeth, one I can't eliminate or otherwise are these Banns Oct 1837 so should be in the reg's.
