:) Hello anyone,
My McEwan family are from the Glasgow area first in the Barony parish and also at Rutherglen.David born in 1828 worked at the Ironworks. He comes from a family of 14, twelve sons and two daughters, the two daughters stayed in Scotland and married, Margaret married a William McGill a policeman and Anne married someone with surname Welsh/Welch.David and another brother Andrew stayed in Scotland. All the other ten sons emigrated:confused: haven't a clue where! apart from eldest emigrated to America, but was possibly killed in the earthquake in 1906. Would love to trace those ten missing brothers any ideas, greatly appreciated. :)kerrymac

Hi Kerrymac,

Have you all the childrens names dates of birth. I think I've found the family in 1841 parents Andrew and Margaret. The two females are Margaret and Elizabeth , 3 males listed William, David and Walter. I can have a look on the Scottish census, transcriptions only not census image. Scotlandspeople will have bmd, census records etc, though credits will need to be bought to view the images.

:) Hi JulieJTP,
Thank you for the details Julie, no!, unfortunately I don't have all the names or the dates of birth, the information comes from family heresay and although they have been spot-on many times, they also have been spectacularly way-off.The family originates from the Perthshire/Stirlingshire border and moved to Glasgow. But I can't verify whether all where born in Glasgow or not.The only ones I have any information on are Thomas, the eldest, the two girls Margaret and Anne, then the two youngest of the sons David and Andrew. The father is supposed to be another David, but have never confirmed that.Oh! and scratch the McGill reference earlier, wrong Margaret:kissu:.The father was a farmer, but moved to Glasgow because of a cattle plague and then ran a pub in the High church area of Glasgow. But I can't seemed to pin down any of the sons for sure. Thanks for your help.:) kerrymac
