Hi
Ive traced my ancestors to Portadown Armagh, I THINK:confused:
heres where I started

below is my grandad edward in 1911 census,he was born in 1909

MCGRADY, WILLIAM HEAD MARRIED M 36 TIMBER MEASURER CHORLEY LANCASHIRE
MCGRADY, SUSANA WIFE MARRIED 16 YEARS F 35 BOOTLE LPOOL
MCGRADY, WILLIAM SON SINGLE M 15 BOOTLE LPOOL
MCGRADY, JAMES AUSTIN SON M 13 SCHOOL BOOTLE LPOOL
MCGRADY, FREDERICK SON M 11 SCHOOL BOOTLE LPOOL
MCGRADY, HARRY SON M 7 BOOTLE LPOOL
MCGRADY, EDWARD SON M 2 BOOTLE LPOOL
MCGRADY, JOHN SON M 7 MONTHS BOOTLE LPOOL
CONNOLLY, FREDERICK BOARDER SINGLE M 40 CARTER BOOTLE LPOOL
CONNOLLY, HARRY BOARDER SINGLE M 29 CARTER BOOTLE LPOOL

Address 9 BRIDGE ST BOOTLE County Lancashire

then from there I got this in 1891

Name Relation Condition ********** Age BirthYear Occupation , Disability Where Born
MCARADIE, Arthur Head Married M 49 1842 General Labourer Ireland
MCARADIE, Mary Wife Married F 48 1843 Ireland
MCARADIE, Dennis Son Single M 20 1871 Steamship Fireman Chorley
Lancashire
MCARADIE, Mary A Daughter Single F 18 1873 Flax Weaver Assistant Chorley
Lancashire
MCARADIE, William Son Single M 16 1875 Clerk Chorley
Lancashire
MCARADIE, Eliza I Daughter F 12 1879 Scholar Bootle
Lancashire
MCARADIE, Julia Daughter F 6 1885 Scholar Bootle
Lancashire
TRAINOR, Peter Lodger Single M 20 1871 Steamship Fireman Ireland

As you can see Arthur was born in Ireland,
which leads us to this in 1871

DENNIS, Denny Head M 49 1822 - Labourer/excavator - bn Kildare, Ireland.
DENNIS, Ann Wife F 51 1820 - bn Armagh, Ireland.
DENNIS, James Son M 21 1850 - quarrier - bn Belfast, Ireland.
MCREADY, Arthur Step-Son M 32 1839 - Labourer/excavator - bn Portadown [Armagh], Ireland.
MCREADY, Mary Daughter F 26 1845 - bn Armagh, Ireland.
MCREADY, James Son M 6 1865 - bn Dublin, Ireland.
MCREADY, Dennis Son M 2 1869 - bn Chorley, Lancashire.

the years in which arthur was born are little out but im sure its the same arthur
hope im on the right trail!!! lol Confused

Statutory records of births, deaths & marriages started in Ireland in 1864 (1845 for Protestant and Non-Conformist marriages). Prior to that you are heavily dependant on church records, where they exist. In general, there are few records prior to 1800. So you won’t find a birth certificate for Arthur as his birth is before the start of statutory registration. But you may find a baptism for him. At least in your case you know he came from Portadown. You now need to establish his exact religion as there is no centralized index of Irish parish records.

Do you know where and when he married? If so, I would suggest you get a copy of his marriage certificate to get his father’s name, which will help when looking at church records. Likewise getting a copy of Denny & Ann Dennis’s marriage cert should give you her maiden name. She comes from Co Armagh too, and tradition would be to marry in the wife’s church.

Some Irish BDM records are searchable on line on the LDS pilot site, but some records are still held by the individual church (some declined to allow their records to be copied) and so this website is not the complete picture:

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections&r=1

For Northern Ireland, the Public Record Office (PRONI) has copies of many of the parish registers, and has a list of those held elsewhere. www.proni.gov.uk/
The records themselves are not on line and you need to search them in person. PRONI is closed until April 2011 but there are temporary arrangements to view this data at Cregagh Library, Belfast. See PRONI website for details.

Varying ages on the censuses are very common. They were often completed by people who didn't really know the ages of all in the household or who weren't that bothered with total accuracy. Provided the other family information matches what you know, I wouldn't be unduly concerned.

Sorry me dear, that's all that is listed in Directory.
He would have been the head of the family to be listed.
Have you looked in Ellis Island site at all?
I'll look in findmypast but often crew aren't mentioned.

Hi
From the above I know Arthurs farther was called james, which explains my confusion for the 1881 census I have

Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 3690; Folio: 84; Page: 39; GSU roll: 1341884.

I though it was a mistake they had JAMES head of family 48 and a 20 year age gap between his wife MARY age 20,this is because she isnt his wife she is his daughter in law!!! with all the kids !!! but where has arthur got too?? because hes back in 1891 census the family is all together in molyneux street bootle

hahahaha my mam said if hes anything like the mcgradys of now he was probably down the pub :2fun::2fun:
