Hi Tiddy30

Hugh McInteer married in the September Quarter of 1881 in the Easington district Ref 10a 516. The spouse is a Margaret Jane Fair as in the 1891 and 1901 census, his wife is listed as Margaret.

Hi

On the 1901 census there are two brothers called John b about 1859 and Patrick McInteer b about 1861 living in Middlesborough, Yorkshire which is not far from Durham.

There is a Peter McInteer born about 1876 in Antrim, Ireland, living in Liverpool.

Possibly relations to Hugh. McInteer is a rare surname.

Try this link. Type McInteer into the name engine. This is the Irish BMDs site.

Hi Tiddy

The best bet would be to get Hugh's marriage certificate.

Did you try that site I posted a link for?

Ben
yeah i had a look at the site but with not knowing where he was born its hard to try and match anyone to him:confused: i was told by a family member that he could possible have come from co leitrim but i cant find anything to support this as of yet.i will have to find out which reg office i can get his marriage cert from i think.with him marrying in easington i think it would be harrowgate but will have to check.

Hi Tiddy,
You can order it online from here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Type in the details Benny gave you, pay £7 and it's yours in a week. Can work out cheaper, considering the price of petrol.

Hi Tiddy

Yes, sending off for his marriage certificate will be the next step. At least you will get his fathers name and occupation. If Hugh was a policeman, it is possible that his father may have been in the forces such as Army or even a police officer himself.

Hi Tiddy,

There is also a possibility that the name may have been mistranscribed. eg mcintire, macatier? etc.
I had one that should have been Ives, but was mistranscribed as Joss.
Don't forget to look at the odd names when searching, and read the original records.
And if you do find a mistake, try and rectify it. I have done it on Ancestry.
Good luck with your cert, we all need some.

Hi Tiddy

Think it was just luck, ended up doing advanced search with Hugh M 1854 Durham.

If anyone else can't find their MC try searching with a space between surname.

Tiddy I originally posted in extra extra then took out to put in the correct post.

cheers
