Now I also found a Archibald mclean that was married to Janet in the 1871 census and then I found a John mclean that was living with mother Janet Miller and step father in 1891 so.... this also maybe the John you were looking for, could not find this Janet, archibald or Robert in the 1881 census though, both John's look like they were born in the same area, Paisley, I have a feeling if nothing else they are probably related. Sorry for making this confusing then helping:'(

Hi
Many thanks for taking the time to look up its much appreciated.

I think the Second one is correct.

We think his parents were
Archibald McLean Born Abt 1853 Paisley
Janet Dunwoodie Born Abt 1853 Paisley

we believe that Archibald died abt 1880 so it looks like Janet Remarried.

The other children we now have for Archibald & Janet are:
John Abt 1873
Mary Abt 1874
Janet Abt 1874
Catherine Abt 1878

Do any of the above children appear on the 1891 Census with Janet Miller

Kind Regards
Kinshar

Hello, Kinshar! I am so excited that I just found my great-great-great grandparents!

My father was Allen John McLean, Sr.
His parents were Gordon Dunwoodie McLean and Catherine Asneth Gillespie.
Gordon's parents were John McLean and Anna Buglass (from Paisley, Scotland)
John's parents were Archibald McLean and Janet Dunwoodie.

I have birth/death/marriage dates if you need them. How are you related to the McLeans?

My maiden name is Kelly McLean, my married name is Kelly Easton. I am trying to find our more about Anna Buglass, born 05/29/1894 and died 08/27/1940. I also have an old portrait of who I believe was Anna. And the last name Gemmell is in our history, too.

Any information you can give me would be must appreciated!
Thanks!
Kelly

Hi, and apologies for posting to this very old thread but I've only just become aware of it and joined the forum. The thread asks for information about Archibald McLean (1850-1880) from Paisley who was my Great Great Uncle. I am descended from his younger brother Daniel. If KAEaston, Kinshar or anyone else still has an interest in Archibald, his ancestors and other members of our shared McLean family please post back so we can share information.

Hi Kelly, it's great to hear from you cousin (3rd cousin once removed to be precise!) and there's a lot I can tell you about your GGGF Archibald and his ancestors. How much do you know already? By the way, I'm descended from Archibald's younger brother Daniel (b.1860) and live in England.

There were a few other contributors to the original thread in 2010 including Kinshar - are you in contact with any of them? If not, it might be easiest to continue this communication by email.

OK, here's another post from me to let me qualify for access to the PM system! Following on from my last post on Archibald McLean, my GG Uncle, can I draw your attention to my McLean family tree which is a Public Tree on Ancestry called "Family of William Laughlan McLean (1915 - 1982) of Paisley, Scotland". Bill McLean was my father, the tree is fully source referenced and stretches from Archibald's GGF (John McLean, b. abt 1752) to the present generation. Archibald appears on it as my GF Daniel's elder brother.

Hi Duncan

Good luck with your research...

Polite reminder, that we don't mention details of living persons on the public forums [site policy]. There is a private forum available for living persons, once your name turns green you can access it.

Thanks for your concern Geoff and to ensure that I don't inadvertently infringe the forum rules again can you explain exactly where I went wrong? As far as I can see the only individuals I mentioned in my posting were John McLean (b. abt. 1752 and no death date but not likely to be still alive), Archibald McLean (d. 1880), Daniel McLean (d. 1896) and my father William ('Bill') Laughlan McLean who passed away in 1982. My McLean family tree on Ancestry does include family members who are still living but as usual with Ancestry they are anonymised for privacy. Thank you and your colleagues for your valuable work on this forum.

Hi Duncan

Certainly no breach of any rules, my fault for being over-cautious.. Noticing '1982 and your father'.. I wont bore you further.. You obviously have a good grasp of the situation..

Happy hunting
Geoff
