Hello,

I have the following McLUCKIE family in Lanark in 1841 and 1861. The variations include M'LUCKIE, Mc LUCKIE, Mc LUCHIE, McCLUCKIE, McLUCKY...

1841
Name: Robert McLuckie
Age: 29
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1812
Gender: Male
Where born: Lanarkshire, Scotland
Civil Parish: Gorbals
County: Lanarkshire
Address: Fire Works
Occupation: Coal M
Parish Number: 646
Spouse Jane b. abt 1813 Lanark
dau Jane b. abt 1837 Lanark
son Alexander b. abt 1839 Lanark &&

Next door to the family on the 1841 census are:
Alexander McCLUCKIE 60
Janet " 60
Janet " 11
Walter " 27
all born Lanark

I'm guessing but I think Alexander and Janet are Robert & Walter's parents.

1861
Lanark
Alexander McLuckie 22 &&
Living in Parish 654, Rutherglen
Robert McLuckie 49 b LKS Glasgow
Jane B McLuckie 48 b LKS Monkland

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. That proves several things. The Lanark branch of the family does come from where most of them are in Scotland, viz, Stirling. And, I hope the bit about Robert being born in Barony, Glasgow is correct. So far no birth can be found for him. He is not listed with the others in Shotts. There are very few Alexander McLUCKIEs in Lanark and even fewer who married a Janet:

Marriage
6 Sep 1812 Alexander McLUCKIE & Janet LIVINGSTON Shotts, Lanark

c. 22 May 1803 Margaret - Alexander McLUCKIE & Janet ALLAN Shotts, Lanark
c. 14 Jul 1805 John - Alexander McLUCKIE & Janet ALLAN Shotts, Lanark

b. abt 1812 Robert McLUCKIE - parents ? , Lanark

c. 25 Jul 1813 Walter - Alexander McLUCKIE & Janet LIVINGSTON Shotts, Lanark
c. 16 Mar 1817 William - Alexander McLUCKIE & Janet LIVINGSTONE Shotts, Lanark
c. 12 Jul 1819 James - Alexander McLUCKIE & Janet LIVINGSTON Shotts, Lanark

No marriage to a Janet ALLAN can be found and no death of Janet can be found either.

It's possible Robert was born BEFORE 6 Sep 1812 and his birth was not registered.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Well now - it may not be Alexander and Janet after all !!

As I said - if Barony is correct:

Robert McCLUCKIE b. 13 Dec 1814 c. 1 Jan 1815 Barony, Lanark
Robert McCLUCKIE & Jean BULL

I can't find a marriage for Robert & Jean but I have found Robert's siblings: John 1808, William 1817 & Peter 1818.

I believe a descendant of a John McLUCKIE b. 1805-1815 Lanark ended up in Australia and this might be the right John.

Please see if you can find John b. abt 1808 Barony, Lanark in 1841.

Thanks

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. I think it is the first one because I think John b. abt 1839 is the one who goes to Australia.

I'll have to check that.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

It seems John b. abt 1808 Barony died young and another son born about 1819 was named John. That would explain the 'late' marriage on 28 Feb 1841 to Ann WATSON.

Please see if you can find them in Lanark in 1841. Thanks. Possibly Fireworks. He may or may not be listed as a coal miner because in 1861 it alternated with 'skinner'.

This is the family in 1851:

1851:
Address: Fireworks Garden Sq, Fireworks, Govan
John McLuckie 30, coal miner, b. Govan
Ann McLuckie 32, b. Govan
Janet McLuckie 8, b. Govan
Christina McLuckie 6, b. Govan
Walter McLuckie 4, b. Govan

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave

As usual there is always a glitch! Ann is Agnes in 1841. Searched John with no surname and this is the only one that appears.

Hello crankypants,

1851
Address: Fireworks Garden Sq, Fireworks, Govan
John McLuckie 30, coal miner, b. Govan
Ann McLuckie 32, b. Govan
Janet McLuckie 8, b. Govan
Christina McLuckie 6, b. Govan
Walter McLuckie 4, b. Govan
Mary Veitch 20, Steam Loom Weaver, b. Govan

Spouse Ann died on 16 May 1860
Age - 42
Father - David WATSON
Mother - Christina M.S. BUCHANAN

John married Mary VEITCH in 1860.

John McLuckie coal miner age 40
Father - Alexander McLuckie coal miner dec.
Mother - Janet McLuckie M.S. Allan dec.
Mary Veitch spinster age 30
Father - Robert Veitch
Mother - Christian/Christina BUCHANAN
Witness - Walter McLuckie

So, were Ann and Mary half-sisters? They were living together in 1851 and probably up until Ann's death. John & Mary's first child was born in 1860.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thanks. Yes please. I cannot find the birth of Ann/Agnes or of Mary or of any siblings of either or either marriage of Christian/Christina BUCHANAN in IGI. For the moment I'm not getting any more credits on SP so I'll do what I can there later today.

That 1841 census with John is the right one with spouse as Agnes instead of Ann. Their first child was born after the census so it's not the John & Ann in 1841 with children that you found earlier.

It may be difficult proving they are half-sisters.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you. I don't know. I have not found a marriage yet for Robert. It's spouse Christian/Christina we need to find two marriages for.

Hello crankypants,

Of course, one of those marriages was to Robert. Silly me.

Ann WATSON was born about 1818 so if Margaret born about 1820 is the first born of Robert & Christian then that puts the marriage between those two dates. And, the death of David WATSON in the same period.

Regards,

Dave
