Hello and welcome to FHUK

What else do you know about Janet? Is that her maiden name? Where was she born? Are we talking Scotland or Australia? Roughly what years are we talking about?

Regards,

Dave

I was looking for the marriage of a Janet born 1842 in Scotland with a brother Walter but parents are John and Ann.

Do you know anything else about Janet? How do you know her parents are Robert and Margaret? How do you know she married twice if you don't know either married name? Do you have the names of any of her children? Do you think she died in Scotland or Australia?

I can find no birth in Scotland 1800-1854 for a Janet with parents Robert and Margaret.

There are 55x Janet born in Scotland 1855-1900 and the index does not have names of parents to narrow that down.

The cut-off point for NZ marriages on-line BMD is 80 years ago.

A possible for Janet/Jean/Jane:

1923/5309 Jean McLuckie - John Lowry Smith

Electoral Roll John Lowry Smith 1928 Auckland West Auckland

NZ Death 1928/7130 Smith John Lowry 28Y

No doubt about this one:

1927/9367 Christina Buchanan McLuckie - William James Dunsmuir

John McLuckie born 1819 died 1895 was married to Ann Watson in 1841. They had a daughter named Janet born 1842. Plus six more children. Ann was born 1819 and died 1860.
John married the lodger named Mary Veitch in 1860 and they had seven children, (another Robert and Christina) one of them being my great Granfather Robert.
Robert married Margaret (Maggie) Summers in April 1889. They had 14 children. The oldest son was John and he was the first to come to New Zealand. The second, third, forth and eigth of the children had died before the family came to New Zealand.
Janet was child number seven. The oldest living daughter.
My grandfather was David Watson McLuckie (child 10).
My oldest brother has sent me an old photo album and loose photos of some of the family. My father had identified his Auntie Janet and I think he said there is a couple of photos that are her daughter - Margaret.
I will ask him if Janet married twice and what the names were.

Helen

Hello Helen,

One interesting thing is that Ann and Mary have a mother with the same maiden name - BUCHANAN. A common name although I know some researchers have claimed they are half-sisters. I've not been able to prove it.

Ann McLuckie
Died 16 May 1860
Age - 42
Father - David Watson
Mother - Christina Watson M.S. Buchanan

John McLuckie coal miner age 40
Father - Alexander McLuckie coal miner dec.
Mother - Janet McLuckie M.S. Allan dec.
Mary Veitch spinster age 30
Father - Robert Veitch
Mother - Christian/Christina Buchanan
Witness - Walter McLuckie

My line is from John's older brother Robert b. abt 1812.

Regards,

Dave
