Merchant navy records

I hope I am in the right place on the forum for this request.

Peter Malone born Birkenhead Cheshire, 01/03/1893.
Married Ellen Burke, Birkenhead 07/12/1917.
Died, Birkenhead 24/05/1946.

I have hit a brick wall searching for his Merchant navy records.

I have his Royal navy records, he enlisted on the 02/12/1911 and trained as a stoker. And I have the list of the ships he served on, he was invalided out on the 02/11/1916, with heart problems.

His marriage certificate in 1917 states he was a stoker in the merchant service.
I have a voyage card from "findmypast" for the merchant navy dated, 04/09/1937, for the ship he sailed on "Natia"

Q. How can I find his merchant navy records for any other ships he may have served on, and did he serve in W.W.11.

Q Is it possible to see the log of the ships in W.W 1.

Thanks for the reply, I am not sure about the London Gazette and will spend more time on it .
The service number on his merchant seamans record card is 930289, and the number of the indentity certificate is 328029.
I have also just noticed at the bottom of your reply similar threads, which look interesting.

Adam, somewhere in the back of my brain, I seem to remember that I was told there was a place in Liverpool that had Merchant Navy Records/History, hope that is right. Although not relevant, there is a big memorial at Tower Hill, London (it's right behind the Tower of London) of all those that lost their lives in the Merchant Navy.

Adam there are 2 indexes in FMP for your fella, have you checked both indexes?

No doubt you would have :biggrin: Just thought i would mention it.

The Board of Trade issued these cards and they fall into three types: CR1, CR2 and CR10. There are two or more cards for some individuals etc etc

I have both records of F.M.P. I was hoping to to find out at what point he came out of the Merchant navy, and the log for the last ship he served on in the Royal navy, "H.M.S. Venerable" According to Wikapeidia, the ship was in the Adriatic from December 1915 to December 1916.
I did find a lot of information on the work they did and how they lived, from the book "Hero of the fleet" by Bill Stone, he served on the sister ship to "Venerable" also as a stoker and at the same time as Peter Malone.

Peter Malone died of a heart attack, he was working in Cammell Lairds shipyard at the time, I forgot to mention he is my grandfather.
My wife and I are due for a day out in Liverpool, when the weather gets warmer, and I will check out the museum at Albert dock.
