No maiden name for Rachel here:

Lucy Merle
christening: 9 October 1848 St. Laurence's Chorley, Lancashire
father: John Merle
mother: Rachael Merle

That's the only baptism for the children I can find in FS.

I can't find the marriage.

I can't find a baptism for Rachel in FS.

The occupation is the same ...

MERRELL James, Farm No. 8 Coomealla, painter
MERRELL Florence, Farm No. 8 Coomealla, home duties

1949 Cook
1954, 1958, 1963 Macarthur

Death 351/1973 MERRELL FLORENCE ELIZABETH - LEWIS ROY - MILLIE ADA - SYDNEY

MERRELL Florence Elizabeth Death notice 06JAN1973 Death 50 late of Warragamba SMH 08JAN1973

... but need to find the marriage to see if it's before or after Sarah's death in 1920.

Is there a James MERRELL/MERRILL in E/R after 1937 Darling?

I can't find a marriage in NSW 1900-1936 for a Florence to a James M.....

I searched using m???????.

I presume it is husband and wife in E/R in 1936 and 1937 Darling.

I'm a bit confused here, is Florence his wife? Her age at death would mean she was 60 years his junior

The 1973 death is not the one in Darling.

Marriage 18657/1939 MERRELL ALBERT STANLEY - PATMORE FLORENCE ELIZABETH - SYDNEY

MERRELL Florence Elizabeth Death notice 06JAN1973 Death 50 late of Warragamba SMH 08JAN1973

Married to 'Stan' and born too late to be in E/R in 1936.

Stuck is the word.

Don't know if the James in Darling is the same one or not. Just same occupation.

Trying to find a marriage for a James to a Florence - no luck yet.

Trying to find a death for Florence. No death found for the one in Darling in 1937.

He's on his own in 1930

James Merrell
Electoral Year: 1930
State: New South Wales
District: Darling
Subdistrict: Wentworth
[Occ. Painter]

Thanks Geoff.

That is way out west of NSW almost in SA. Yet he died in a suburb not far south of Sydney:

The Sydney Morning Herald - Thursday 18 March 1943 p.10
DEATHS
MERRILL.-March 17, 1943, at his residence, 1 Alexander Street, Penshurst, James Merrill dearly loved father of Jim, John, William, Vera, Amy, Doris, Florrie and Nellie, aged 84 years.

Florence = Florrie = daughter not wife?

So where is a marriage ? or death for daughter 'Florrie' ?

He would be 60+ in 1920, unlikely he remarried, Flo' could be a dau. and was 21y between 1930-1936, hence an appearance in the E/R's
