Hi

I saw the first episode of Midsomer Murders without Tom Barnaby in it and even though it was alright, I still kept expecting Tom to turn up. It has something missing now John Nettles is not in the show. The new Barnaby, Tom's cousin seems a bit egotistical.

Unimpressed. Would be like watching 'Allo, 'Allo without Gorden Kaye.I think they should have finished the series and done something new.
I felt the same about Heartbeat when Bill Maynard left.
(Just shows what a boring life I lead!) :2fun:

I very rarely watched it Ben. But as Somers said, it will always be different from now on. Same as the 'Morse' series really.

I started watching Heartbeat, when Nick Berry left, I never found him convincing, but enjoyed the series from then on. But I haven't watched that in a good while either.

Try and make 'Frost' without David Jason.:eek:

I think you get used to way a particular actor plays the part, you couldnt get by with another actor playing Morse but Lewis is just about watchable.
Taggart on the other hand, so many changes theyve lost the plot so to speak!
The new Barnaby only time will tell, still anythings better than repeats of repeats!
I bet genealogy in Midsummer easy as the death register is quite a large book!!!!

I'm surprised anyone wants to live there, with it's track record. The cemetery must be chockablock.:2fun::2fun:

With or without John Nettles or any other actor in a leading role in any other series - makes no difference to me, it is the storyline that matters - is it convincing?

For most of the TV programmes, I put my headphones and CD's on and read - that's my opinion of TV in 21st century.

Still there was not one in my house for the 1st 17 years of my life so I'm not addicted.

I didn't watch it Ben, although I do like MM. Might see if its on itv iplayer and catch up, but it won't be the same without the 'proper' Barnaby..

I don't think any TV police series is very realistic now. Can't see any of them getting told off like Z Cars for being too accurate on police methods.

Yes we may have to give time for the new Barnaby to blend in but I dont think he will ever be the legend that the old Barnaby was.

Rosemary and Thyme is undoubtedly the best detective series, because of the deep convolutedness of its plot and fine script writing.
Nothing at all to-do with Felicity Kendal being in it and always being rear of the year to many folk. (what, to me? Surely I am not biased  ) :D :2fun:
