I'm researching the MILLER family of Chideock, Dorset.
Parents were Joseph MILLER and Elizabeth WAKELY who married in 1805.
I have easily traced the male children, except for one, but the females have been elusive :(
I'm looking for Martha Miller b. 1814 & Jane Miller b. 1821
I found Jane Miller as servant in Melcombe Regis in 1851 UK census, but nothing after!
John Miller b. 1817 has been elusive as common name too :(

Cheers Gail :)

There is a marriage for a John Miller widower:

Name: John Miller
Marriage Age: Full Age
Marriage Date: 21 Jan 1841
Marriage Place: Chideock, Dorset, England
Spouse: Mary Garbutt

Unfortunately there aren't any father's mentioned on the marriage certificate. Mary is a widow too.

This is the same John Miller in 1841, could be related:

Name: John Mitter
[John Miller]
Age: 35
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1806
Gender: Male
Where born: Dorset, England
Civil Parish: Chideock
Hundred: Whitchurch Canonicorum
County/Island: Dorset

Sub-registration district: Whitchurch Canonicorum
John Mitter 35
Mary Mitter 40
Emma Mitter 10
Eliza Mitter 8
Caroline Mitter 6
Maria Mitter 4

Marriage Place: Symondsbury, Dorset, England
Father: Joseph Miller

It's the spouse that's the minor not Jane.

Thanks Amanda, but the John Mitter (Miller) in the census is 10yrs older than 'my' John, so not sure they would make such an error??

Do you think Jane, as a 37 yr old, would marry someone almost 20yrs younger?? Have you found them in the 1861 census yet, Amanda??

Thanks Bootzy :)
Going by the places of marriage, I'd go with your theory that Jane died in Sherborne in 1860

Cheers Gail xx

Sorry about the repetition of the Census details - I really must start reading the posts properly!

Going on where Jane was in 1851 could this be her in 1841. Age is out but then 1841 has never been accurate.

HO107/295/15/F9/p12
Belvidere, Melcombe Regis, Weymouth
Head of Household Gore Brown
Jane Miller 25 Female Servant born Dorset.

I never actually said this John was yours, I said he may be related. It is possible that Jane married someone much younger than herself, people marry for all sorts of reasons.

No worries :)
That 1841 census also looks good and it is always 5 yrs out, being guesstimated by the census taker and transcription person :p As I haven't seen Jane anywhere else, then I'll take it :D
