My great grandfather was a engineerman in washington co durham 1874
on his daughters birth certificate it says w moss father blast engine
washington did they actualy live in the places
also his son james was a salt miner first in northwich cheshire then at
preesall near fleetwood lancs

but why does it say under when and where born
25th july 1874 blast engine washington and is repeated under signiture
andresidence of informant i will need to check if they ever used
blast engines for accomadation

Hi Astwood,
It has just occurred to me, that as your relative was an engineer, and maybe his job was to monitor and maintain the blast engine.
Would the structure for this also include accommodation. Not actually in the engine, but accommodation attached to it. Effectively the same building.
I know that several engineers in London actually lived on the premises of sewage pumping stations, living next door to steam driven beam engines, and this accommodation being purpose built.
Your relative would have also possibly been in charge of a crew of workmen.
