Misleading Census

George Arber married Sarah Norman 27th October 1867 in Islington.
She died 28th February 1890 in St Pancras.

1891 Census has George as "Married"

1901 Census has, correctly, Widower.

Just shows how easy to end up chasing false info. As far as I can see George did not remarry in the intervening period.

I had a case of a widow who reverted back to her maiden name, still living with her family in 2 census returns, and dies under her married name.:2fun:

I think you have to take most information on any census with 'a pinch of salt' as you never know who supplied the information, who filled in the form or even who transcribed it!
We all know birth dates can be on a moving scale - a man wants to be older or the woman wants to be younger than her actual years.
Sometimes it appears that every one is against us getting at the truth - whatever that may be:2fun:

I have an ancestor who was a "widow" in 1851 but her hubby popped his clogs in 1838, 13 years earlier. Shows that the info supplied is only as accurate as what is being given.
