Hi Everyone, How common is it to find people whose births have not ben registered I have found three siblings that I am unable to locate their birth dates I have checked GRO & BMD but there is no record of them or any evidence of Baptisms.
Sophia Kerr (1852) Liverpool.
Margaret Kerr (1854) Liverpool.
Robert Kerr (1860) Liverpool.
James Kerr (1864) Liverpool. All dates Approx.
Parents James Kerr 1815-1892) Glasgow & Elizabeth Myers (1823) Liverpool. Married 5/6/1853 Liverpool. 2nd Marriage for both.

The family appears on 1861 Census mis recorded under the surname "Sterr" and I can find them in later life through marriages but I cannot find enough information to be able to request any birth certificates , so I am stumped and hoping that somebody may be able to offer some advise, Thanks in advance.

Terry.

What was Elizabeth Myers maiden name in her 1st marriage. Strange that she gives her fathers name as Thomas Myers, if she was a widow.?

KERR, ROBERT mmn. ELLISON
GRO Reference: 1860 D Quarter in LIVERPOOL Volume 08B Page 143
KERR, ROBERT mmn. MCGILVERY

Hi, And thanks for your speedy replies, I cannot find any evidence of the earlier marriage for Elizabeth Myers and agree that it is strange that she chose to use her maiden name on her wedding certificate despite her being recorded as a widow, maybe they had something to hide, it is also strange that James recorded the births of his three children from the earlier marriage to Elizabeth Tomlinson (31/0/141) I really don't know where to go with this one.

Good advice Gibbo but the only person that I could find alive in 1939 census was Sophia Kerr 23 Chamberlain Street, Wallasey , Widow, DOB 21 May 1852 but checking again using this information I still cannot find her birth recorded anywhere

Thanks Steve, Robert & Margaret could be mine as the wifes name is the same and they are both in the correct age range but I still cant find any evidence to the birth being registered so dont know how to obtain a birth certificate to prove parents information.
Thanks.

If Sophia was born the year before marriage, her birth may be under a different surname, such as Myers [assuming Myers is mother's maiden name]
OR as Benny suggested the births were unregistered.

I have looked and cannot find a Sophia Myers birth in Liverpool 1850-1854. There was one in Bradford in 1853 but unlikely it is yours.

I have an ancestor born in Essex in 1852 and it seems she was not registered.

Unregistered or a batch of Liverpool records around 1854 lost ?

I've given up trying to find my great grandfather's birth reg. I've bought several hoping the name was mangled but all proved to be the wrong ones.

Just another thought but if there are no birth registrations how would one go trying to find baptism records. Only asking as i don't know much about them and wondering if that could be another avenue. One would probably have to know what religion and what area to start looking??
