Missing Births

Thanks All for your time and input, I have checked the GRO & BDM all to no avail I have also checked for baptisms and I have not been able to locate any (including under mothers maiden name) the frustrating part is that I have a DNA match with a descendant of Sophia and her Brother James should in theory be my Great Grandad, So I am guessing that they had something to hide, Thanks again.

Back then it was on the onus of the registrar and his deputies to collate info on new births, rather than parents notify them. The 1874 act changed that where the parents registered the birth, or anyone else present at birth.

From 1837 to 1874 registrars probably got word from midwives, doctors etc on new births. This can be why some were missed.
