Update September 2015

Well after years of trying to get this issue sorted and countless emails, we are finally getting somewhere.

I've had notification today that the Indian government is about to give permission for the grave to be examined. DNA can be extracted and identified as 'non local' before any remains, if there is any to be exhumed.

It has then been agreed that if any remains are identified as 'Our Boys', these will then be exhumed and handed to the Royal Navy as military escort to the CWGC site in Pune, India for a full ceremonial military burial.

If the grave is found to be empty, which it could well be as it was damaged in the boxing day tsunami 2004, then its arranged to do a committal to the deep on a Royal Navy vessel, again with full military honors.

Very nearly at a close!

All the best - Ron

Hi there,
is here any more news re the excavation? Are you still waiting for Indian authorities to proceed. Would love to know more details, as I have a similar project pending and generally interested. Also it is different from a recovery of British personnel as they are usually not disturbed.
Thank you.

Missing in Action Update 2017

Well it's been a while since I last posted, we were dealing with the uk foreign office who have been speaking with various departments of the Indian government, and nothing is ever fast with them.

But we now have all the permissions from the Indian government to go ahead and the investigations have now passed to the uk mod JCCC (Joint Casualty & Compassionate Centre) for completion. That's where is been held for over a year, it's soooo frustrating, all that work and it's held up by our own government.
I do keep prompting them, but alas, no reply' which is frustrating.

We have been working on this since 2009 and now many of the then living next of kin have passed, which is very sad.

Missing in Action Update 2017

Hi there Ron, It is sad these things are such a slow burner. You have obviously spent an enormous amount of time on this project and it is also sad that descendants have passed. When you did you original research did you go to the location of the aircraft and/or suspected grave site. And do you have a image of it as it has been damaged due to the tsunami. I am interested as this is a good example of bad processes and how they could be managed faster.
