I'd like a look up please for the following MOODIE family in Fife in 1841. Probably Dunfermline and some of the children, all born Dunfermline, may not be there by 1841.

James b. abt 1792 Carnock, Fife
Ann / Agnes b. abt 1798 Dunfermline (Agnes on the marriage)
Janet b. 1824
Christian b. 1827
Ann b. 1830
Elizabeth b. 1832
Robert T b. 1834

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

Rain? Really? We will get some next month.

Thank you. That's interesting for several reasons. At first I thought it can't be the same family in Clackmannan because I don't have Eliza, James or Adam. But, I checked the death certificate for 1859 and it said Ann was the wife of an 'engineman'. Interestingly the death certificate says the informant was daughter Christina. The census agrees with the birth reg - Christian. I wonder if the death certificate should say 'son' then?

They married in 1818 so that fits ok.

Please see if you can find them in 1851. Thanks. James died in 1874 and spouse Ann in 1859.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. The children missing from my list that appeared in the 1841 census can't be found in IGI. That explains why I didn't have them but not why they don't have entries.

There is an entry for a Robert Taylor MOODIE and for others with that middle name with father James and a totally different mother. So I'm a bit puzzled now. I picked up the incorrect birth date for Robert thinking he had a middle name. It looks as though the Robert in this family does not have a middle name of Taylor and is not in IGI either.

Ann died in Inverkeithing in 1859 and spouse James in 1874 in Dunfermline.

Please see if you can find James and any family in 1861 & 1871.

Thanks.

Dave

Hello Crankypants,

Robert Taylor MOODIE b. 23 Jul 1834 Dunfermline, Fife
James MOODIE & Ann KELTIE
Batch: C119505

That does appear in IGI. redf)

But this is not a match for James born about 1826:

James Taylor MOODIE Birth: 12 SEP 1828
Christening: 28 SEP 1828 Aberdour, Fife, Scotland
Father: JAMES MOODIE Mother: CHRISTIAN ANNAN

They married on 8 May 1818 in Saline, Fife and their 2nd child was born in Dunfermline so this is a possibility for Eliza:

Elisabeth MOODIE b. 4 Aug 1819 c. 8 Aug 1819 Culross, Perth, Scotland
James MOODIE Mother: Anne KITTEN

I have checked for other marriages in Fife for James MOODIE 1820 +/- 10 years and have found 3, including this one:

Spouse: CHRISTIAN ANNAN
Marriage: 17 JAN 1825 Aberdour, Fife

So that matches the birth of James Taylor MOODIE in 1828.

My James didn't marry twice as far as I can see. From spouse Ann's death certificate: (It matches where they were living in 1851 census)
Death: 1859; Milesmark, Inverkeithing, Fife, Scotland; recorded at Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland; Ann Moodie; wife of an engineman; married; age 61

So, by chance we have two James MOODIE in Fife giving one of their children a middle name of Taylor?

Dave

Hello crankypants,

I dunno, yet...

Some things don't add up. In 1851 it says he was born in Dunfermline but he was actually born in Carnock. I doubt he was a blacksmith after being an engineman. In 1861 something is wrong with the parish and address - Milesmark is in Inverkeithing.

On 15th May 1891, the following subjects were transferred from the parish of Inverkeithing to the parish of Dunfermline: ...Milesmark...
This would be the marriage, but it meant he returned to the town of his birth to marry.

Spouse: Jane HUTTON
Marriage: 2 DEC 1859 Carnock, Fife
Batch: M114141

In 1871 his age and place of birth are spot on. He was born on 2 Nov 1792 Carnock.

I guess you won't find a 90 yo James Moodie in 1881 with spouse Jane.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Crankypants,

James Taylor MOODIE Birth: 12 SEP 1828
Christening: 28 SEP 1828 Aberdour, Fife, Scotland
Father: JAMES MOODIE Mother: CHRISTIAN ANNAN

I have checked for other marriages in Fife for James MOODIE 1820 +/- 10 years and have found 3, including this one:

Spouse: CHRISTIAN ANNAN
Marriage: 17 JAN 1825 Aberdour, Fife

So that matches the birth of James Taylor MOODIE in 1828.

Hi Dave

This might be James Taylor MOODIE.

1841 Scotland census
Civil Parish: Inverkeithing
County: Fife
Address: High Street

MOODIE James 1801 age 40 Innkeeper Ap Deal Fife, Scotland
MOODIE Christian 1800 age 41 Scotland

Hello crankypants,

That confirms there is another family and that James Taylor born 1828 is not my James born abt 1826. I still find it very curious the the extracted IGI entry for Robert Taylor MOODIE has Ann KELTIE as his mother. I suppose it means the two MOODIE families must be connected recently for both to be using Taylor as a middle name for their children.

Thanks, that is Adam born 1839 in Dunfermline - now a school teacher.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

Scotland census still down but found a way through the Historical Records tab, it's fairly long winded as you can't do exact searches and can only search by country and country, no birth town, address etc.

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. They don't agree where Agnes was born. Oh, well.

Please see if you can find them in 1881. Thanks. Ann Keltie MOODIE born 1865 is the 'proof' with that middle name of the connection. I'm interested in tracing her especially.

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. I'm still fishing for death ranges or children missing because they marry. So far I don't have any deaths for any of the family. I can't find a Ann Keltie MOODIE marriage.

Please see who you can find in 1891.

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. They probably did. Or he created his own street and named it himself.

"Enginekelper Refired"

Prestongrange is in East or Midlothian depending what site you look at. Looks like the 37 should be 57.

Very nice saying Agnes married a HUNTER.

Elizabeth MOODIE married James BEVERIDGE on 20 Oct 1851 so that fits.

And no sign of Ann.

Dave
