Geoff.

i deliver to Bristol a lot and i go to an old timber yard in Speedwell,an old part of Bristol....now Geoff came from a big family and his upbringing was fairly tough for various reasons.
Geoff retires from the timber yard in three years time,he tells me he is looking forward to it..but i think there is a part of him that will miss it.
He started work there on leaving school...the security and money has kept him moving on,or so i thought but no that wasn't the reason.
You see my friend Geoff cannot read or write.....he has terrible dyslexia that meant he was ridiculed at school that led to truancy and a life away from learning the basics we all take for granted.
So my admiration for him is immense,to bring up a family and stay in full time work is remarkable.
The sad thing is he feels he is to old to to learn now, maybe i should try and get him to crack on when he retires i mean he could be around for another 40 years yet.....i may have to have a word with my friend Geoff.:)

Go ahead and have a talk to him Lee. If he can learn to read and write it might open a whole new world up for him in his retirement years.

My sister is mildly dyslexic, she can write letters and stuff but if it is a business sort of letter she gets someone to check it for her before she sends it.

Lee, I know someone who has difficulty reading and writing. He is money smart and loves his lifestyle. he is not afraid to ask for help if he needs it.
I think your friend Geoff will do very well. He will find a hobby,or a part time job, he will be able to do to anything, that involves working with his hands.
He won't learn to be any more literate than he is...he's happy.
I wouldn't worry too much, just be his friend.
