In 1915 my great grandmother Catherine Hart (nee Coombs) was living in a two room tenement at No 10 Grays Inn Buildings, Holborn, Central London, which by then was about 6 miles from any countryside and was right in the heart of Central London surrounded by noise, pollution, tall buildings and millions of people.
10 years later in 1925 she was Catherine Musgrave. Her first husband died in 1917 and she remarried in 1919. She was living at No 14 Peases Street, St Helen Auckland, Durham, her second husbands birthplace. A quiet tranquil Durham village surrounded by hills, fields and coal mines, a far cry from her residence 10 years before.
