Hi

Can anyone comment on what the name of the clergyman is in the image? It looks like his name and underneath, 'Bishop'.

Many thanks
Geoff

Thanks, Ladies.

It caught my eye because he was the chap officiating at the mar. below.

Ellen Mary Lee Louise Prettijohn Beckles
Estimated birth year: abt 1861
Age: 18
Spouse: William Henry Goodwin
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 29 May 1879
Parish: St Barnabas, Homerton
Borough: Hackney
Father: John Alleyne Beckles
Spouse Father: William Goodwin
Register Type: Parish Register

There are 3 other marriages on that page and the preceding page, all performed by an A E Wicks.

Oh!

So further research shows E H Beckles is the father of John Alleyne Beckles.

Not often we get that lucky, stumbling across such valuable info.

Thanks, Rupert.

Yeah, there are one or two anomalies, one is the first attachment in post #7, where it states Bishop Beckles was the gt uncle of Ellen Mary, I would have expected that to be gt grandfather.

According to this:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/hyndman/messages/260.html

There is a John Alleyne Beckles b. 1810 and Edward Hyndman Beckles b. 1816 [brothers].

I have found Edward H Beckles [curate] in 1851, with family including son John A aged 9, this looks to be the line to follow unless I've overlooked something.

I may start another thread before this gets messy.

This looks to be my John Alleyne Beckles [there are at least 2 others b. about the same time up to 1842]

John Alleyne Beckles
Christening Date: 17 May 1837
Christening Place: SAINT MICHAEL,BARBADOES,CARIBBEAN
Father: John Alleyne Beckles
Mother: Mary Lee
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C51395-5 , System Origin: Caribbean-ODM , GS Film number: 1157927

John's death in 1867 aged 30y fits with the above..

Deaths Q2 1867
Beckles John Alleyne
30
Clerkenwell
1b 384

His probate confirms his wife Ellen in the will.

So John's father is John and not Edward H, the attachment in post #7 is correct. Edward H's son, John A would be between 3-5y too young.
