Hello - I'm new to this site and just found it through Google, the thing is I'm not in any position to search surnames at the moment because ---
Just found out that my paternal grandfather is not my real genetic grandfather - my dad has never met his real father and said he 'doesn't care'. And he let it slip after a few glasses of wine - I'm 18 now and my parents never told me and my two other siblings/ never planned to! I think we had the right to know that our surname is actually fake and that we have a load of half aunties, half uncles and half cousins etc.
Anyway, I was just wondering, as a female does anybody know what kind of characteristics/genes/possible health problems/physical features are inherited from a paternal grandfather?
Thanks

Hi

It is very difficult to say what characteristics/genes etc you will have inherited, mathematically speaking you would in theory have 25% from each grandparent, but then we get into the realms of recessive and dominant genes (the reason siblings are not identical unless Identical twins)we all inherit different characteristics from our ancestors, I have first hand experience as a dog breeder.

I have at the age of 52 found out that I have 7 half brothers and sisters from a relationship my father had whilst married to his first wife. As we meet we are now comparing ourselves for similar personalities, looks, and all the other things as half siblings we share.

All I can say is you may have had a shock and be a little upset but you may have a whole lot of relatives to find and make friends with, great if you are a gregarious person,

Gwen :)
