Hello,

Not convicts but three sisters to search. ;)

www.irishfaminememorial.org
Irish Famine Orphans
Naughton Catherine 18 Tenagh [Tynagh], Galway - Ship name : Inchinnan (Sydney 13 Feb 1849) - Edward & Bridget (father living in Sydney) RC
Relations in colony; father arrived by the 'Eliza II' in 1832, Edward Naughton, Whiteboy, supposed to be living in Sydney. Married John Broderick in Goulburn in 1852, 8 children, died 1901, buried in Crookwell. See gravestones in Laggan cemetery. Her sister Mary arrived by the 'Digby' 4 April 1849 and sister Bridget by the 'Sabrina' 10 July 1854. Her husband's estate was valued at £2,124, mostly real estate.

V1852476 98/1852 BRODERICK JOHN - NAUGHTON CATHERINE LO= RC Goulburn St Peter's & St Paul's

A marriage I've not yet found on film.

I have nothing on father Edward and nothing on Mary and this on Bridget:

NAUGHTON Bridget arrived 13 July 1854 aboard the 'Sabrina'. She was aged 21, a farm servant from Tanagh, Co Galway.
Parents Edward and Bridget - mother dead father living at Chatsbury Goulburn, NSW.
Religion RC. She could read.
Relatives in the colony her father Edward Naughton Goulburn and a brother in law John Broderick residing at the same place.
State of bodily health, strength and probable usefulness Good.
Payment Remittance regulations per John Broderick.

So sister's spouse paid her passage.

Death 9136/1901 BRODERICK CATHERINE - EDWARD - BRIDGET - CROOKWELL

This is all I have on John BRODERICK:

26 Nov 1841 on board 'Wallace' to Port Philip
Labourer 1841, Farmer & Grazier

Death 5548/1912 BRODERICK JOHN - PATRICK - MARY - CROOKWELL

I don't know. Only Catherine is in my tree at the moment because a daughter married a STORRIER.

It's not Tynagh, Galway and it's not 1831 so I don't know if one of these is the right one or if the right one from another parish is missing or not yet in the database.

Naughton Catherine 1830 Parish: KILCUMMIN OUGHTERARD (RC)
Church Baptism Naughton Catherine 1830 Co. Galway

Naughton Catherine 1833 Parish: KILCUMMIN OUGHTERARD (RC)
Church Baptism Naughton Catherine 1833 Co. Galway

Only two I can see - probably the Goulburn one:

5391/1877 NAUGHTON EDWARD - ANTHONY DIED GOULBURN GOULBURN
9408/1893 NAUGHTON EDWARD - UNKNOWN UNKNOWN MOREE

Can't find the 1877 one in TROVE.

They have not entered the Goulburn newspaper yet into the database.

Not in the Old General Cemetery Goulburn so probably in the RC one but not on-line.

No BROUGHTONs either in the Old General.

Bit curious because the STORRIERs were not RC. Most married in CofE or Methodist or Presbyterian churches.

Well, it seems Edward was a convict. But some of this is plainly incorrect. We know he had at least 3 daughters:

NAUGHTON - (Edward NAUGHTON (1797?-1877) probably the son of Anthony
transported to Australia 1832 on board 'Eliza'. Tried as a Whiteboy 26/3/1832 in Galway. Widower at that time with 3 sons and a daughter. In Australia, married Ann Mary BRODERICK - 7 more children.)

Marriage V18431963 92/1843 NAUGHTON EDWARD - BROTHERIC ANNE - LO= RC Goulburn

I can find only these:

V1849466 67/1849 NAUGHTON ELLEN EDWARD ANN
V1854724 71/1854 NAUGHTON SARAH EDWARD ANN
4669/1856 NAUGHTON FANNY EDWARD ANN GOULBURN
7338/1858 NAUGHTON PATRICK EDWARD ANN GOULBURN

This must be her death:

4679/1894 NAUGHTON ANN M - PATRICK - MARY - CROOKWELL

Info on 'Whiteboys' - HERE

I can't find Edward in the Transportation Database.

NAUGHTON Edmond Eliza 1832 40/2680 Ticket of Leave [4/4146; Reel 938] District: Goulburn; Tried: Galway

Curious Conditional Pardon is after date of marriage but there is no Application to Marry:

NAUGHTON Edward - Eliza 1832 48/1681 CP 1 Sep 1848 [4/4460] 788 471-472

Thanks. Curious that some researchers seem to think he had only one daughter.

New South Wales, Australia, Registers of Convicts' Applications to Marry, 1826-1851

No Edward/Edmond NAUGHTON or NORTON

A tree does not list his son but does show 3 daughters: HERE

It's Tynagh not Tynagn. HERE

Trivia time :2fun:

The grandfather (Michael Lyons) of past Prime minister of Australia, Joseph Lyons, emigrated to Australia from Tynagh.

I cant find a death index for 1878 tho  You think he could be your Edward as his probate says Laggan the same as Ann.

Thanks but can't be the one in Casino - far north coast of NSW.

Edward Naughton b. 1803 Tynagh Galway died 24th July 1877 Laggan NSW and Bridget Mahoney born circa 1796 Ireland. Bridget died before 1831 (in Ireland).

Death 5391/1877 NAUGHTON EDWARD - ANTHONY DIED GOULBURN GOULBURN

Intestate = Edward had no will so a delay of over a year.

Probate

Edward Naughton - Date of death 24 July 1877, Granted on 31 October 1877
Thanks but something does not add up - that newspaper was 1878. The newspaper would report something 3 weeks old not something 1 year old.

Patrick was also a convict and his other daughter also arrived.
